The contact owned a 2002 BMW 540I. While the contact's vehicle was at a stop sign, it was rear ended by another vehicle. The air bags failed to deploy. There were no injuries and a police report was filed. The vehicle was towed and deemed a total loss. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 40,000.

Takata recall. The contact owns a 2002 BMW 540I. The contact received notification of NHTSA campaign number: 15V318000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was made aware of the issue. The contact had not experienced a failure. Parts distribution disconnect....updated 09/14/16 updated 10/18/16.
