The contact owns a 2001 Cadillac Seville. The contact stated that while sitting in the front driver side seat with the vehicle off and key out of the ignition, the side air bag deployed without an impact. There was a loud boom and a gray substance emitted from the air bags. The following morning, the seat belt anchor fractured. The driver sustained a loss of hearing in the left ear, 3 neck fractures, abrasions on the arms and legs that required medical attention. A medical incident report was filed. The dealer roberts auto mall (19 park ln, downingtown, pa 19335, (610) 269-8200) was made aware of the failure but stated that the failure experienced could not have happened. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.
