2016 Chevy Colorado LT 2.5l 4 cylinder. At 55,000 miles the first Catalytic converter mounted to the exhaust manifold, had both of its hard mounted mounting brackets crack at the mounting bolt holes. Replaced under warranty. At 77,000 miles the replacement converter’s both mounting brackets cracked and was replaced under the 80,000 mile emissions equipment warranty. At 90,000 miles the second replacement converter’s mounting brackets cracked. I removed the converter and fabricated 2 new brackets which I welded on top of the original brackets to strengthen the mounting brackets so they would not crack again.
At 106,000 miles, that same converter cracked the flange weld that bolts to the exhaust manifold flange. A brand new converter from Chevy was $1,900 plus $430 labor. I took my truck to a quality exhaust shop so they cold weld the cracked flange weld. At 120,000 miles, the converter where the exhaust manifold mounting flange neck side of the converter ended up cracking the body of the converter where that short exhaust pipe neck and the converters leading end face meet, the converters leading end face ended up cracking around where the short exhaust pipe comes in contact with the converter’s body.
At this point, I've spent more time and money trying to fix Chevy’s crappy catalytic converter design, that I threw my hands up and said screw it. Yes the engine light is on. No the truck when new never had enough performance for it to lose any do to the crapped out converter. Just one more thing to add to the very long list of poor factory quality issues the 2016 Colorado 2.5l left the factory with.
