It was 11:00 PM at night and I was leaving my home garage. I stopped, ran back into the house and when I returned, I could not shift my car from the park position. I had to leave my car parked in a position where I could not close my garage door all night. The next morning, I called several Chrysler dealerships and was told the problem could be fixed for about $75 to $150 dollars. I paid $125 to get it fixed, lost a day of work and was frankly disappointed that Chrysler recognized this as a recall issue but would not cover the cost.

How does one car 70,000 miles get stuck in Park? this seems like a defects problem. this has happened to too many owners and we should not be liable for this!

I was pregnant and stuck at Target in the middle of Las Vegas 100 degree summer. My husband had to come rescue me leaving his job!! It was terrible! He lost his days worth of wages. This problem occurred again yesterday and he had to come rescue me again when I was stuck at my college parking lot. This problem has occurred to both of our neighbors and they got rid of their 300's due to this problem! Chrysler needs to fix this shifter and make it a recall.

I can't get my car out of Park. It's stuck in a parking lot a short distance from my apartment. I had a mechanic look at it, but he can't get to it until Monday. Today is Friday. The mechanic won't know what the problem is until he takes a better look at it on Monday. Never had this happen before. I don't know what the problem is. The car starts, I can put on the brakes, the brake lights work, but the car won't come out of Park. The mechanic looked to see if there was some type of override switch on the car, but apparently there is none. This has happened at an awfully inconvenient time.

Got up Friday to go to the store and vehicle would not moved out of park. Had to call a toll truck to pull vehicle out of the garage and take vehicle to the dealer. To replace driver shifter cost me $298.00. the vehicle mileage 82,866. The dealership service advice me that the chrysler 300 shifter had to be replace between 60,000 to 80,000 miles. If the public know this they wold not purchase this vehicle. Next issue is the moon roof parts are not replacable have to buy whole moon roof.

I understand this is a common problem with all Chrysler 300 and Chrysler won't do a recall. My understanding is that all they need to do is replace a plastic part with a metal part that would stop the problem when the plastic piece breaks.

At this time (Oct 2010) I have no complaints. When the shifter locked up I went online and did research. I went to the dealer bought the replacement part for approx 90.00. It took about 30 min to swap out. It was very simple to do. Then I went to the local auto wrecking yard and pulled one off of a wrecked chrysler 300 2006 for 50 bucks. I keep it in my truck as a spear for when I drive around town. To swap out, I carry a 10mm socket and 8mm socket an phillips screw driver. Thats the tools I use.

Car is locked in "Park." Cannot get out of my carport. Car is now as useful as a box of rocks. Solution said to be a replacement shifter, quoted at $275 (parts & labor) plus cost of towing. Dealership service manager said this happens all the time so they keep replacement parts in stock. If it's a defective part, why no recall?

2005 Chrysler 300 Touring

Car stuck in garage because it will not shift out of park regardless of car being on or off or ignition on or off. This is not the brake lock out safety feature, it is something else. Even when car is running with brake depressed it will not shift out of park. I can not check tranny fluid because there is no dipstick (retarded idea btw Chrysler, good job). Anyone out there have any similar problems and could shed some light would be greatly appreciated. It is Sun and if I cant get it fixed today I will have it towed into the dealership tomorrow. Thanks.

Update from Apr 29, 2009: Found a great thread that tells how to fix this problem, where to buy parts, and some great pictures.

There have been other owners who have complained about the shifter in the Chrysler 300. I have the Touring model. You can park your car and go back to start it up and the shifter will not budge. I did not get a response from Chrysler except see an authorized dealer to fix the car. There is a back log on the part nationwide. There has also been a complaint with a 2007 Chrysler 300 also. This tells me that the same shifter for the 2005 is being used for the 2007 and nothing is being done about fixing the problem.
