The contact owns a 1999 Chrysler Concorde. The contact stated that the ABS light illuminated and she heard a noise in the engine compartment. The mechanic stated that the pump motor circuit for the ABS failed and caused the light to illuminate. The approximate cost to repair the vehicle was between $1,500 to $2,000. The front rotors were replaced in April of 2006 and in September of 2007. In January of 2007, the front driver side bearing was replaced. The mechanic stated that the failure was due to poor design and cheap parts. The air conditioner also began to leak. The mechanic stated that there was a hole in the suction line because of the design, and it rusted and rubbed through another part of the vehicle. The air conditioning suction line was replaced in September of 2007. The leak could have potentially caused a fire. The mechanic stated that the power steering kit needed to be replaced. The vehicle could easily rust into the frame and condensation could collect. The vehicle is currently hesitating and surging. The current mileage was 78,100 and failure mileage was 78,000. Updated 03-04-08 the leak of the power steering hose could cause a fire. Updated

I have a 1999 Chrysler Concorde that has been at the atlanta Dodge dealership since March 26. The engine has sludge build-up and will need to be replaced. The air conditioner was serviced before my trip to atlanta, yet I still experienced the unit making noises the day after we arrived. (thankfully, we arrived). Within an hour of the ac unit making noises, the engine died on I-20 West. I had the car towed to the dealership. I live in Florida and purchased the vehicle only 6 months old ago, it has about 79,000 miles. I had 3 regular oil changes during those 6 months, and one month before my business trip, I had a diagnosis test done at Goodyear because the oil light was flashing on-an-off. Goodyear also changed the oil that 3rd time. Nothing was discovered. As a single parent of 4 kids, I was trying to rebuild my credit after a series of job layoffs. I have had auto rentals for the 5th week now and see no end in sight. Luckily, I did purchase an extended warranty, but no one is assuming responsibility for the defect, no one-- the warranty people, thrifty dealership (where purchased) or Chrysler! I am sinking further into debt. This is so unfair to the consumer. I am more than angry. I will never purchase a car again without checking "mycarstats" (I did a very generic online search and had carfax). And will never purchase a Dodge or Chrysler again. I am now searching for a mechanic?S special to get around town and to work.

A/C heater problems since car was new, control head replaced three times. Entire A/C system replaced by reputable independant auto/truck A/C company @ 60K miles. This independant company indicates that it's widely known in the industry that Chrysler A/C systems are expected to fail @ 60K miles, and we can reasonably expect newly installed system to perform for 60K miles. We've spent over $2000 on the A/C, last month replaced with control head #3 @ Chrysler dealer $300, still not working right... clear that Chrysler really has no clue... system is clearly defective. Problem very widespread, ask anyone. Most folks just give up, junk or trade.

Driving down interstate 265 at 55 mph, engine just quit, causing a potentially deadly situation. When the engine quit, it lost power steering and brakes. Car only has 70,000 miles. Air conditioning quit working in may of 2003.

Air conditioning/heating unit does not cool or heat properly. Has been investigated regularly without Chrysler dealer "finding" anything. On particular date below it was a very cold morning, used heat and drove 3 kids 20 miles. Stopped for half hour, got back in car and car sounds like a diesel engine - rough and loud. I was alone with the 3 kids. Asked a couple of men to listen, they thought cylinder(s) were gone as noise lowered when engine revved. (by the way, this car has had 2 transmissions already, with 73,000 miles). Limped home scared to death on interstate highway with the 3 kids. Stopped at service station, told not to drive as engine was failing. Called aaa and they came and towed to Chrysler dealer. Dealer was unable to replicate the diesel sound and "found nothing wrong." Today is Nov 24th 2003 and this morning the same sound is back in my engine. The heat only works when I am moving, not at idle, and leaves a very odd smell in the car if the car is left idling with the heat on. I have a 5 month old, a 5 year old and an 8 year old, I am getting very frightened to drive this car with them in it anymore. I did an online search and found that this ac/heat problem is prevalent in this model (Chrysler Concorde 1999) and can create sludge in the engine that causes sudden engine failure. I want this fixed and I want you to get after Chrysler about this!

The air conditioning in my 1999 Chrysler Concorde smells like a horse and is no longer functioning. The problem started happening in June 2002. The air conditioning emitted a fog. I took the car to midas where they would put dye in to the system to detect where the leakage was coming from. They told me to return in two weeks to review. They were unable to identify where the problem was, refilled the coolant and it worked until April of 2003, still smelled like a horse. Then got it looked at again in April 2003, at a Chrysler dealer - they didn't know what was wrong but refilled coolant. It worked until October 2003. I then took it to another dealer who could not identify the problem again. I just took the car to my mechanic and he diagnosed the problem to be in the evaporated core and advised to call Chrysler to have them cover the charge. My car has 53,000 miles on it and is out of warranty. When the problem first began happening, it was under warranty but no one was able to identify the problem. I am now working with Chrysler. The problem has been that the dealer has never been able to identify the root cause of the problem and it keeps costing us more to have it looked at with no resolution. I am working with Chrysler now to have them cover this charge, but they are telling me that since I am now out of warranty, they will not be able to help me out much if at all. I called their recall department and they advised me that this part of the car has not been recalled, but I should lodge a complaint with the NHTSA to commence an investigation to have it recalled. I checked the NHTSA web site and found that I am not alone, there were two other complaints lodged for the same thing! so I am hoping that by lodging my complaint, some action will be taken, at least initiate a defect investigation, and hopefully, this will resolve in a formal recall so others, and myself, will not have to pay to have this defect corrected.
