Every time I put any amount of fuel in my tank of my 2006 Dodge Caravan SXT there is a very strong smell of gas coming from the engine compartment and after the van starts it will always stall out within a minute or two of starting up. It will stall idling in park as well as when in gear and starting out at slow speed and up to 25 miles per hour. It occurs more often when the fuel tank reaches the full mark. I have had the fuel pump assembly replaced which did not change the problem.

Van idles roughly and stalls immediately following refueling. We do not "top off" the tank but the van stalls within a minute of leaving the gas station. Stalling seems to occur less in colder temperatures but the rough idle is consistant. This seems like the same problem that was covered for 2004-2005 model years by an extended warranty. This poses a safety hazard as the van could stall in traffic causing an accident.

Every time I fill the gas tank, it will only take a few gallons before clicking the pump off. After filling tank, while driving, the engine cuts off, thereby cutting power steering and brakes. Check engine light comes on and when checked it says evap system.

Nearly every time we fill the gas tank up (not pumping in extra after it stops to "top it off, " just stopping when it first clicks), the engine will die about 30-60 seconds after we start driving away, almost as if the engine has flooded or something. It seems to happen most frequently if I happen to let off the gas at any point during those first 30-60 seconds. After doing some research, it seems this is a more common issue than it should be, but, on more than one occasion, we have been pulling out of the gas station onto a busy street right when our van dies. Thankfully, this has never happened when a car is coming directly at us, but it's certainly a possibility with the way it continues to happen. Again, doing research on this make/model/year of Caravan has shown that it's not an uncommon occurrence, which I find particularly concerning. I would appreciate if something could be done about this so I can be sure my wife and children (not to mention myself if I'm driving, but I'm mostly worried about them) will be safe after filling up with gas in the future.

Car will stall after putting fuel in. It doesn't matter how much fuel, car will stall with no warning. Usually when pulling into traffic. This has happen several times at different gas stations. Real safety issue since you will not have any power to steer to a safe place. You have to turn car off, than start car for it to restart. Dealership has replace several items but car still stalls. Now I'm told it's the fuel tank which is a costly repair. The problem is a design flaw. The water/ fuel purge value is bad and the only way to fix it, is to replace the fuel tank. I'm looking for a fuel tank but cannot fine one. Even the auto shop I use regularly cannot fine one, only at the dealership which costs three time more than what they would charge. Conspiracy?

The 2006 Dodge Grand Caravan cannot be refueled at the gas station because of vapor not releasing in the gas tank. This is a common problem at the dealership and they want a large amount of money to replace the gas tank.

When I fill the gas tank up, the van stalls after a couple of minutes of driving. At first, I thought that I had gotten some gas with water in it at the gas station. But then it happened again. Then I thought that maybe it had something to do with topping the tank off. So, I don't top it off anymore, but I am still having the same stalling problem.
