The 2007 caravan will quit accelerating sometimes, not every time, at highway speeds, the rpms go up.

driving on highway 400 north out of toronto, wet conditions i try to pass and nothing. I dont condone driving fast in wet conditions but seriously not being able to accelerate above 70 on the 401 if it's raining is dangerous. This has happened to me about 4 or five times since i have purchased this vehicle.

Caravan 3.8L

  • Automatic transmission

The day before vacation I went to go pick up my son from school when my van started sluggishly. Like a puttering. Thought maybe I didn't turn the starter all the way or something so I turned the key off and started it again. Still a sputtering. Thought it needed a good push of the gas to "blow out" and start up the engine. It would drive but barely. My foot was all the way to the floor on the accellorator and it was barely moving and sputtering the whole way. Finally after reaching the end of the drive way and realizing I can't go 5 miles an hour 20 minutes and make it to pick up my son I parked it and called a friend. When my husband got home and tried to start it, it got more and more sluggish to where it eventually wouldn't start at all. Lights worked, a/c worked, radio worked, automatic windows worked etc but just dead. Our mechanic friend replaced a part in the fuel tank, not the whole tank, and that seemed to have fixed it and all was well, yay! Then after driving 4 hours to my parents house, on the way home as my husband was turning onto a highway and accellerating to get into traffic, it started to stall. At first he said it felt like the transmission because he would floor the accellerator but nothing happened. The RPM's at first reved way high then bottomed out to 0. Finally the van shut down. Power steering hard to turn, etc. Wouldn't start. We don't know what's wrong. Help!

When driving on the highway or city, the vehicle will begin to lose acceleration. Even when you put the pedal to the metal. A recent trip to our local Dodge dealer was unable to repair or "recreate" the problem. They ran tests on the vehicle and gave it back to us with a clean bill of health. The problem occurred again yesterday when my family was on the way to a movie. This is a potentially dangerous problem, especially at highway speeds. Since I have had no help from Dodge, I am going to get rid of this lemon.
