CarComplaints.com Notes: The first year of the new Dodge Dart had a rough start, with owners reporting a disproportionate number of engine and transmission problems.

For transmission, the main complaints are transmission failure & rough shifting. So far, average mileage for transmission failure is 25,000 miles. Not good.

For engine problems, it usually starts with the engine light coming on for any number of reasons: bad sensors, ignition coil replacement, bad wiring, faulty gas cap ... dealers are replacing various components with varying degrees of success, or telling owners they can't duplicate the issue.

Since 34k (now on 134k). Haven't able to repeat the problem for the dealership. Typically on hot days or when just starting the car after a few minutes the screen would reboot, then eventually turn off, then come back on. Been happening more consistently after 60k where I was able to record it.

Dart Limited 1.4L Multi Air Turbo

  • Manual transmission

I ordered my 2013 Dodge Dart from Lee's Summit Dodge in Lee's Smmit MO in late Septmeber early October 2012. I received my vehicle from them 8-9 weeks later after the factory builtit. The radio/screen has been an issue since purchse. My dealer has replaced the radio 6 times and still hasn't fixed the issue. Sometimes it's a daily occurance of shutting off sometimes multiple times a day.

My 8.4" display randomly shuts off/fizzles out white, turns off completely and restarts. At first, I thought it was probably just doing a software update or something, but it now happens too frequently to be that. I should've taken it back on the first time it happened but I'm just too busy to take it back for something small like that.

Now, adding in all the other issues I've had, it will be going back later this week (I've owned the vehicle for 18 months, at almost 19,000 miles on it). Most likely, I'll be shopping for a new car sometime in the next month, which is really a shame. I love all the features (Or ideas of the features, they actually have to work to be real features) My friend bought a 2015 Dart, same model as mine, just newer, he's had no problems so far, I've driven it, it seems to have more power and better handling. I'm really shaking my head over my POS

Dart Limited 2.0L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 20,000 miles

During the winter I pressed on the brakes over ice, which caused the traction control to engage. As soon as that happened, all the interior electrical turned off for around a second or two. This has happened about 3 times since. I have thought more about the issue and was thinking of a scenario of how this might be an issue.

If I'm hitting the brakes in winter, it might be the case that I'm about to crash. And if there happens to be slick roads when doing this, my interior electrical may turn off. And in that one or two seconds, will my airbags work if all electrical is not functioning? It's my fault for not reporting it yet, but this could be a real concern for many customers of Dodge. I plan on bringing it up real soon.
