This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
- the contact owns a repair shop and complained that if the door handle broke on the 1998 or 1999 Dodge Durango there was no replacement door handle available for purchase. The contact stated that the internal driver's side door handle for 1998 - 1999 vehicles were no longer being produced, and the vehicle owners has no recourse. The contact made a makeshift door handle because the original handle was no longer available, and there was no part available that would put the vehicle in compliance. This failure could be a safety hazard in case of an accident. The vehicle owner could not easily get out of the car. The contact stated that the part which was $30 - $40 was being purchased at junk yards for approximately $400. The current and failure mileage were both 71,838.
Motor, ignition, tie rods, brakes. Heater/air have had hardly no heat or A/C for the last 4 years.. have replaced everything from fan, blower, cooling, water pump, heater core etc. Still back in the shop on 12-28-04 got back today 01-01-05 and still no heat don't know what is wrong with it.
I own a 1999 Dodge Durango with approximately 64,000 miles. Immediately upon purchasing the vehichle I have experienced a large poping and dragging sound when turning or performing a U-turn. Recently I attempted to make a U-turn and my car nearly lost control and felt as if it would tip over. I took the vehicle in to cerritos Dodge and I was advised that the vehichles upper and lower, right and left ball joints were completely shot. All were replaced. I continue to experience the popping and dragging sounds. Upon purchasing the vehichle, I have had to change the (all four) tires 3 times, obtain 3 wheel alignments, change the battery (went completely dead at approximately 25,000 miles) repair the brake light switch (brake lights wouldn't turn off), and repair door/hatch locks (unable to lock and make loud buzzing and clicking sound).
The door locks did not lock or unlock properly. The first drivers side door had made a buzzing sound when they were locked or unlocked, then they completely failed. The door remains making noise, but doesn't always lock or unlock and sometimes get jammed. The problem also happened with the passenger side, and back driver side. Scc
