Safety problems with Dodge Durango including replacing ball joint twice in 4 years, repalcing front roters twice in 4 years, complaining about problems with brakes and the transmission. This vehicle failed two safety inspections for these problems. These are serious safety concerns and have been down played when I have taken my car in and I have not been notified of the seriousness and that these are reoccuring problems with the Durango. Yet the dealership and Chrysler want to claim no responsibility.

I was told in May 2003 that my 2000 Dodge Durango needed upper ball joints replaced. I then took it to the dealership where I purchased it and they told me the same thing. They told me they couldn't get the replacement parts for at least a month. When I took the Durango to them in July, they then told me I need the control arms replaced as well. I was very upset because my vehicle only had 41,799 miles on it. I researched this and found that ball joints should last at least 100,000 miles. I expressed my anger toward the dealership and the manager then told me I wouldn't have to pay for the control arm, that Chrysler would eat that cost for me. At that point I had no choice but to have the work done, for fear that I might get into an accident. I spent 2 1/2 long months trying to resolve this issue and spent $490 to replace the ball joints. I hope this reaches you and you can get this resolved for everyone involved with these similar problems. Thank you. Elaina dow.

The upper/lower control arms would squeak while in motion. Upon the inspection of the control arm(s) by the dealership, it was determined that the parts were bad and needed replacement. Prior to this incident, the upper control arms were replaced 3 times due to the failure. The consumer felt that the control arms would last longer if they were able to be lubricated and that the tires need to be replaced every 7-10 thousand miles due to he control arm failure. The dealership did not complete the alignment when the control arms were replaced.

The front ball joints are loose causing the tires to wear out unreasonalbe sooner. The front upper ball joints need to be replaced and can become dangerous. The front end makes noises and feels unsecured at times. I have asked the dealer to exam the front end after purchasing the vehicle. The machanic said everything was normal.

This complaint is related to the Dodge Durango front suspension upper ball joints and control arms wearing out prematurely. At 28,433 miles I experienced front suspension problems. The local Chrysler dealership could not find anything wrong. At 38,801 miles "they" were able to pinpoint the problem and replaced the front and rear sway bar bushings and inner and outer tie rods. At 45,390 miles the problem reocurred and the tie rods, upper ball joints and control arms were replaced again! after reading the related article on your website, I wanted to express my concern and encourage you to further your investigation.
