2005 Dodge Grand Caravan, known issue, airbags failure to deploy. They have known about this issue for a few years and are only now doing the recall. My husband was in a front end collision at over 40mph, lots of damage, and the airbags did not deploy. I've confirmed with Chrysler that my model was one of the vins listed in the recall.

Recently found the air bag light come on. The problem persisted after the clock spring was replaced. The problem was traced to front airbag impact sensors and sub wiring harnesses. I found many complaints and recalls based on the year and state the vehicle is in. My car was originally sold in Virginia and I bought it used in nc. If the car was still in Virginia, it would have been covered under the August 2007 recall. The recall should be expanded to read "any vehicle purchased in theses states xxxx is subject to this recall".

Information redacted pursuant to the Freedom Of Information Act (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6) driving in snow to work one morning, there came a squeal (alternator) then lights on dashboard on. After I made it to the highway which is plowed. The airbag light never came off. Took it in for repair and it was the passenger air bag. This year the same thing happened, the squeal and after a trip to repair a evg sensor the dealership informed me that I now have the driver's side and passenger side air bag sensors are corroded. I do have an extended warranty which does not cover this "environmental issue" and a complaint to Dodge's 800# [xxx] declared it also an "environmental" issue not covered! [xxx] said that I should contact the road commission as they are the ones that put the salt on the road. I have not correct the problems as I don't believe it is an expense that I should pay for. I bought the van in 2005 with an extended warranty that was to cover all. I did some research on Chrysler's past recalls on airbag sensor and believe that there is an issue with their products and the way they are installed.

I have a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan. The air bag light started coming on when I was driving. I received a letter from Chrysler indicating that the front airbag sensors may crack and they will be covered under a lifetime warranty. However when I took the car to a dealer they said the clockspring mechanism was bad and not covered by the warranty and it would cost $250 dollars to replace. In addition I had to pay $85 for the diagnosis which was recommended by Chrysler. I am convinced that my sensors are defective.

NHTSA action number : PE05061 July 11, 2008 my mother and I were in a crash involving the front passenger side of the vehicle. The impact did about $5,000 worth of damage yet the airbags did not deploy. I am concerned it has to do with this investigation into defective sensors. How can I be sure my vehicle is safe?

My 2005 Grand Caravan had the air bag indicator illuminated. The dealership replaced the 2 front sensors, explaining the problem was due to corrosion (same as NHTSA action number PE05061). He said that although this was the same problem as with the recall, that my vehicle was not a covered vehicle. Note this is a high road salt usage area. After reading through some of the complaints on this vehicle, especially those where there were injuries due to non-air bag deployment, I worry for the safety of my family. It makes me wonder if the manufacturer cares if people are injured due to safety feature malfunctions.

Chrysler/Dodge minivans 2005 and newer "knee bolster" airbag system, has a steel plate hinged at the bottom of the dash and is propelled by the deploying airbag into the driver's legs. The driver immediately and instinctively pulls the legs back and the assembly drops in front of the driver's legs preventing the driver from stopping the vehicle. That is if the driver's legs aren't broken by this, and then they can't stop the vehicle if they wanted to. This will lead to secondary and more serious collisions and possibly death for occupants in the vehicle because the driver cannot stop the vehicle.

The first indication of a problem was the airbag light on the dash remaining on occasionally after the vehicle was started. The problem then progressed to the airbag light remaining on continuously and the cruise control function and horn (both of which are mounted on the steering wheel) not working. These symptoms were identical to those experienced by earlier years of this vehicle model that resulted in a safety recall for replacement of the clock spring in the steering wheel. I had the clock spring replaced, which corrected the problems.

My 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan I believe has a defect in the clock spring. I received a letter stating there has been an extended warranty for the front air-bag sensor control module. Two weeks after I received this letter the air-bag light came on. After approximately 3 weeks after the light came on the horn stopped working along with all the other steering wheel components (cruise control, radio control). I took my van to the dealership to get it fixed under the extended warranty, they told me there was nothing they could do because the clock spring in the steering wheel had corroded and broke and that is what is causing this defect. My van's mileage just turned 70,000. I use my van to Transport my 3 kids in and feel this is a safety hazard that needs to be fixed right away. Not only do the steering wheel components not work but the driver airbag is disabled as well due to this malfunction. Due to this defect there needs to be a recall issued as soon as possible before an accident occurs and the airbag does not deploy. There has been a recall on the clock spring for the make and model of my van for years 96-98 and feel this is the same thing that is happening to my 05 van. Please help before anyone gets hurt.

The air bag light was on. I had recent recall repairs on the air bag sensors completed and it did not resolve the problem. The air bag system currently will not operate. The recall should have been more extensive to take care of the problem.
