I'm now up to 104,000 miles and 4 brake jobs. This last time the RF brakes were actually on fire. Lucky I own a parts store and can change this stuff myself. I'll NEVER own another Chrysler product. These brake are just the tip of the iceberg with this car. I can go on and on about the bad neutral switch which everybody thinks is a bad starter. My power locks have not worked in a year and I can't find the problem. The car is an AWD and wears out rear tires every 6 months and thats after getting the vehicle realigned at the same time. The transfer case has been replaced twice at $1200 a pop.

Journey RST 6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 44,500 miles

Rear brakes should rarely ever wear out on a car. I have had cars with 160000+ miles and maybe replaced the rear brakes once while replacing the fronts 2 or 3X. The rear brake calipers are sticking which is causing premature pad and rotor wear and is potential safety hazard should calipers lock up or the sticking causes excessive heat that could result in tire failure at high speed. Brakes should be replaced regardless of years and mileage on the Journey due to the known problem

Journey SXT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 130,000 miles

I have only had this vehicle for about 3 years (purchased used) and have already replaced the brakes/rotors 3 times and just also had to replace the calipers, rotors, and brakes again within 2 months of previous brake replacement. This vehicle has been nothing but trouble since I purchased it. I will NEVER purchase another Dodge!!!!!

Update from Oct 21, 2015: It's scary to think at any time my brakes can lock up (again) especially knowing I have 3 children in the car. This problem should have been corrected years ago!!!

I bought my car in December of 2012. LOVED IT! It's my favorite color it's got all the bells and whistles all the hidey holes perfect car for me. THEN... the problem starts.

2 weeks into having car had to have the rotors turned. As there was some serious brake issues almost rear ended someone twice. When you have to stop fast the car doesn't stop and grinds the heck out of the rotors.

So we get the rotors turned by the dealer.

Then my 2nd month of having the car, get this I'm driving to the dealer to make the payment. And the right caliper siezes up I have smoke and fire coming out of my tire and so the dealer says well it's past our 30 days so it's on you. $950.00 later I have new pads, new calipers and new Rotors.

2 weeks later I have more brake issues and I spend another $1000.00 buying these super duper rotors that my mechanic recommended. And I still feel that I'm not safe in this car... FIX THE BRAKING SYSTEM...

I knew I was stalling on signing the contract on this thing for a reason. I wish I had followed that gut feeling now. Day 2 of having my journey- first caliper locks up with smoke billowing out from the left front wheel well. 2 years later- EVERY caliper has been locked up and replaced and i'm still having it do this ever 2 months.

I'm replacing my Wagner thermo quiet ceramic pads literally every 6 months and i'm so sick of it. Car is only 3 years old and i've replaced ALL calipers, alternator $300!!!!!, Pads so many times I may as well buy stock in them, The goddamned Crank shaft AND Cam shaft sensors, the starter works when "it feels like it", The wiring in the passenger door for the window QUIT working out of nowhere one day for no apparent reasoning, Should i keep going on? I have maintained this piece of sh*t at every oil change and its always waxed but would better on fire. Im so sick of this thing.

I had an old chrysler Concorde 98' with 210,000 miles on it and it ran better and was more reliable than this piece of sh*t lemon. I bought this journey with hopes of not having to worry about surprise repairs and what i got was a million time worse. I bought this car at 42k and the calipers were seizing already wtf does that tell you? THEY ARE GARBAGE.

Journey SXT 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 36,040 miles

We we heading out on a one week holiday and were only 20Kms from home when I saw white smoke coming from the rear passenger side of the vehicle. The brakes were so hot, I could put my hand a foot away from the wheel and still feel the intense heat. (probably should have pulled out the marshmallows that were meant for camping 'cause i could have roasted them over the caliper!!!!).

Delayed holidays for a day while we waited for the dealership in the next town to pick up the vehicle and fix the problem.

2 days into our already delayed holiday I had issues with the transmission / PTO!!! The dealership at first told me that the noise i was hearing was from worn out brakes, but after going under the hoist with him and pointing out the sound, he admitted that it was an internal issue and a complete tear down was required.

2 weeks and a wasted vacation later, the unreliable beast is still on holidays at the dealership waiting on a back-ordered part that is not expected to come in for another MONTH!!! Did I mention there are 100 of these units on back order!!!!!!

My camping trailer is still at the park we were at (thankfully they were nice enough to understand and hold it there for us) and I'm guessing I'll have to cancel the vacation we had planned for two weeks from now.

NEVER TO BUY DODGE AGAIN!!!

(oh, and if you want to hear my rant about the chrysler customer care person hanging up on me, you'll have to find my further rant regarding the transmission issue)

I haven't had my car for three years yet! I have less than 48 000 km on my car, I take good care of it, and I found out that I have to replace the brake pads/rotors. When a friend had a look at what was involved (after I received the estimate of $897 plus tax), he discovered that my rear calipers had seized and this was the root of the problem. The dealership gave me a customer service number and they told me to get the repairs done and they "might" reimburse me! This will be the last Dodge product I buy and I will not be recommending them to anyone else. The customer service is a joke and obviously there is a problem. I also had to replace the starter in March but that's another complaint....

being careful not to hit potholes, whenever this happened, it thought that the front passenger tire would fall off, the yearly inspection was due, therefore I mentionned this to my dearler, whom, sent his mechanic to take a drive with me. After explaining the how and what, he simply said: can't hear anything or can't feel anything when driving, but we'll take a looksie ma'm. 1 hours later, well your caliber is shot and the tyerod is just about to let go, but the good news, u got in here just in time c'z it's still under warranty !!!,

As I'm writing this, I still don't know if he is going to replace the brake pad which I had to replace at only 23'000 KMS and was lucky enough to pass it on warranty, but my story doesn't end there c'z the rear end, rotters and pads are gone, they need to be replaced at only 46,000KMS and that's the second time the pads are being replaced, so will keep u updated on the ongoing Journey Rotter & Pad problem !!!

My 2009 Journey was just minutes away from catching on fire due to faulty brakes, calipers and was so hot that it melted wires. I have contacted Chrysler/Dodge, and have had nothing but round around. I still haven't spoken to my case manager and we are going on day #4. The dodge dealer said that the cost was around $2000.00 to get fixed and I am trying to get Chrysler/Dodge to pay for it due to the history of the car. It's pretty bad when the dealership, that sold the car, says that this car is junk.

Journey SXT 4.0L V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 47,000 miles

I have 47000 miles on my 09 dodge journey that i bought brand new with 20 miles on it. I have replaced 3 of the 4 original tires (one due to a blowout) at a whopping $190.00 a piece, which kumho does not offer any help and does not honor their warranties. At 47000 miles the brakes on the front right side actually fell completely off of the vehicle! The repairs which included all new brakes and 2 new rotors cost $750, that I had to pay because that's not covered after 3yr/36000 mile warranty. my dodge dealer's service dept just said "well sounds like you need new brakes to me, but it'll be your responsibility because it's out of warranty" and when I called dodge they said they were really sorry for the inconvenience to me, but it was my responsibility. Luckily neither time anyone in my family was injured. i just wonder if we had been doing 65 on the interstate and my children had been killed would dodge have said "sorry about the inconvenience"? I will never ever ever buy another dodge, jeep, chrysler, eagle, Plymouth, etc vehicle EVER again. 47000 miles the thing is still NEW! I've bought used cars with more miles! At least they could stand behind their cheap ass manufacturing and very POOR quality vehicles and help people out when they malfunction.

This is the final installment of all the things that seem to be going wrong all the same time. I was lucky and didn't have to replace the front rotors and breaks until about 60K. The rear ones are still original. I have noticed lately that the rear caliper on the drivers side smells like burning breaks when I pull the car in the driveway. I am assuming it is beginning to lock up for an unknown reason. I will make sure to update all 3 issues on my car when I get it in and let you know what they say. It's unfortunate because it is such a nice car. I bought it partly because of the lifetime power train warranty but that doesn't do much good if you get 400 dollar'd to death along the way.

Just bought a used certified pre-owned 2009 dodge journey se... mind you, it is certified pre-owned... I have put about 8000 miles on this car in the 2 months that I have owned it (I commute). I have not even an 1/8 of the pads on the driver side, and about 1/4 of the pads on the passenger side. the dealer, HARR CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP in WORCESTER, MA sold me a warranty (warranty solutions) that refused to pay out on a failing sensor in the steering column within the first 1 1/2 months, so I canceled it. now this problem. I am now never buying another dodge vehicle nor am I buying from HARR again. from what I found out, FORD removed their dealership from the HARR. I would rather own a Toyota Prius with brake pedal problems than a dodge. as soon as I can, I am getting rid of this POS (should rename it, POD Piece of Dodge)
