The radio was replaced two times in this vehicle. On a trip out of state, the navigation just quit working. I was just over the warranty miles at the time. I keep getting the error message with no detailed maps on the unit, or that Maps locked up.

I have had my 2015 Dodge Journey for 3 years and now have replaced the entire radio twice in that time. Each time the navigation says "Can't unlock Maps". They replaced the entire radio just over a year ago and now I am having to replace again. This needs to be a recall as i have seen many other people with the same issue. How can a navigation only last just over a year?????? I have owned Dodge cars for over 10 years and never have had this issue before.

Journey R/T V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 38,300 miles

I chose this car because the price was right and fully loaded to include navigation. Navigation is what I wanted because I travel with my kids little league and football. I refuse to use my phone and use data. I had not used the navigation but a couple times. My Sirus radio trial went out and the next time I tried to use navigation, it was no longer available. It says "no detailed maps". Since I'm just over my warranty, it's not covered and is going to cost me over $700.

I'm fairly confident, it went out BEFORE my warranty but since I did not notice, there is nothing I can do. I think it is ridiculous that I have to buy a Garmin now because my radio needs replaced, per dealer. I just had it checked out when my schedule opened up and they confirmed what I thought. Radio needs replaced. I searched this issue and it appears others are having the same issue just past the warranty.

Journey V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 9,980 miles

I've read other sites complaining about these Journeys and the GPS navigation system seeming to go out coinciding with the end of the Sirius Radio free trial period. This is my 3rd Journey (2010, 2011, 2015) and I've never experienced such a piece of crap, especially for what I paid for this vehicle ever! I should have just kept my 2011 and shut up...and it would be paid off by now too!

So Sirius trial ends and one week later, so does my Garmin GPS navigation system. It says, "maps are locked". The dealership, who sees the idiot in me for buying from them coming says, I need to purchase the newer maps (upgrade). I say, I just want to use what I had and of course. I'm told the maps are $149.99 and once I buy it, IF it doesn't fix the problem, then the radio has to be replaced (under warranty). I said, then just replace the radio. They said...no, you have to upgrade first to see if that works. Then the yelling started. There is no refund if the upgraded map doesn't fix the problem. It's to keep the dealership from having to eat the part and the labor....of course, I'm sure they're getting paid for both. This is a bunch of BULL!!! I had my 2011 for 4 years with NO ISSUES!! I've had this 2015 for now 13 months and besides the vehicle shutting off while driving, brakes not working at 60 mph, the steering wheel locking in hwy traffic, GPS not working (and missing an appointment because I couldn't get directions), a piece of the seat-belt broke off, lies about the gas mileage, listed with daytime running lights but there aren't any unless you turn them on, driver's door window you have to hold the button to make go up....I like the $32K color! And yes, I have submitted complaints to several agencies on the urgency to issue a recall on the engine failure while driving...this is a death waiting to happen.
