Was practicing driving hours with my son who has a learner's permit. We had just pulled into the parking lot and excited the vehicle, when the car horn began to blare and the locks kept locking. The locks would not respond to the remote keyless entry system. The locks responded temporarily to the manual unlock but we could not open the door before it re-locked. We were unable to get into the car for about 5 minutes. We were 1.5 hours away from home and it occurred 2 times. It was very unnerving for my son and I.

Nitro UT V6

  • Automatic transmission
  • 90,000 miles

My eldest son called on his way home from work last evening, very upset and frustrated. As he was driving on the highway at 55 MPH, the horns started blaring, the windshield wipers and washer fluid started to flow, the lights were flashing, the RPMs were revving, power steering went out,and the car wouldn't respond to gear changes. He was shaking and we ended up needing to call a mechanic to determine what course of action to take in order to get my son home safely without causing injury to either himself or to another driver. We are unable to use this vehicle at this time as I am deeply concerned for the safety of myself and others should it be operating on the road and the TIPM completely fitz out.

It is my understanding that the 2010-2012 TIPMs have been recalled but not the 2008-2009. I cannot begin to fathom what it will take or how many lives will be lost before Chrysler wakes up and makes this right. We are a single income family and both my son and I require vehicles to get to our jobs to provide. I have been having to rearrange my job to help get him to work. From what I have read it doesn't even sound like Chrysler is providing rental cars while their customers cars are out of commission. This is not acceptable.

Nitro SE 3.7L V6

  • 100,000 miles

Week after I bought the 2009 Dodge Nitro in June of 2014 with about 95k miles, the thing started to have difficulty starting from time to time, weeks in between no starts at first. When no start occurs the engine will fully crank when the key is turned and remain cranking until key is turn to off position with no successful start. Would take 5-10 minutes of waiting before it would start. At first getting a jump would start her right up but eventually even that stopped working, would have to just wait and hope it fires up. (Always did eventually) After 6 or so months of this issue occurring randomly on and off it started occurring on a weekly and sometimes daily basis... Can't tell you how many gas pumps I got stuck at all the time when my car wouldn't start back up.....

First shop visit mechanic had no idea what the issue was and no code to run on the dash...

In December the car had it's first "stall". I turned it on (no difficultly start on this occasion) and drove about 20 yards to a stop sign where it shut off. All electrical things were working, A/C, radio, lights, etc... But when pressing the accelerator nothing happened, no check engine lights or any others. (Never had lights on before except ABS and ESD randomly a few times while driving in the snow). After stalling I took the key out and tried to restart right away and the no start issue occurred... Tried a few more times then let her sit for 5 minutes or so then she fired up eventually.

Next day took her to Dodge Dealership in Dallas... Payed for a wrong diagnosis, TIPM update, and some other random blown fuses along with some other regular maintenance, was promised it was fixed and good to drive to Denver, CO for New Years. Leave for CO and halfway through Kansas I stop to fill up, what do you know, it doesn't start and it's below freezing outside... After 30 minutes I get her going and can't shut it off the entire rest of the way there and back... Stressful with getting gas and dangerous not to mention!! (Had to do this for months)

Two months go by and the Nitro has it's 2nd stall, this time while stopped at a red light at a major intersection... Was very fun as you can imagine blocking a lane for 10 minutes until it decided to start up again. Next stall happened a week later, this time while driving about 30mph, no warning at all, no noises or puttering or jerking, just had the traction control light come on and I coasted to a stop with no power steering. Next stall happened 3 days later while driving, same routine.

3rd and 4th mechanics happened after that, fixed battery terminals, cleaned fuel system, checked battery, alternator, fuel pump, etc,. Mechanic had no idea after a few hundred bucks of random repairs, he suggested my key fob chip was broken somehow and sent me home, same issues kept happening... Took the Nitro to the 5th mechanic today and heard back it was the TIPM and it'd be $1000+ to fix.

How is Chrysler/Dodge not responsible or liable in anyway after all of the problems with all their vehicles? Why only a 2011 recall?? HELP!!!

TIPM went bad while driving my childen around.... The horn went off and all the lights on the dash came on, then the car cut completly off. I tried to start the car multiple times to no avail, I then turn on the emergency lights and they blinked a couple of times then a beeping sound was made and everything went out. At that point smoke came pouring out from under the hood, i lifted the hood to find that the smoke was coming from the TIPM. Upon investigation I found that Dodge has a common problem with this part on their vehicles and they currently have a Class Action Lawsuit filed against them in regards to the issue with this problem.....Currently trying to get some reslolution to the problem.........
