The contact owns a 1995 Dodge Ram 1500. While driving at an unknown speed, the headlights failed without warning. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The contact mentioned that the vehicle was experiencing the same failure specified in NHTSA campaign number: 99V024000 (exterior lighting). The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 80,000.
The head light switch wiring harness melted. The owner had smelt something burning before but was not sure what or where it was coming from until the other night. Smoke began coming from the head light switch near the console.
Consumer does not have any dim lights shining on the headlights. The only lights that he has are the bright lights that shine while driving. The dealer cannot duplicate the problem.
