Ram 1500 4WD

I have had 3 failures of my front brakes. The first time was within a week of purchasing the truck. The second brake failure was 6 months later at approx. 18,000 miles and the third failure was at approx. 34,000 miles on Oct. 1st 2000. I have taken the vehicle back to Dodge and they have reported nothing wrong with the brakes. An independent mechanic looked at the brakes and said there appears to be something wrong with the calipers. The truck pulls violently to the left when the brakes are applied and I've also had the front brakes lock up.

problem #8

Dec 121999

Ram 1500

  • Automatic transmission

A D V E R T I S E M E N T S

Anti-lock brakes are designed for the rear wheels only. The front brakes do not have anti-lock brakes. If driving in snow or ice and applying the brakes, front brakes lock up. Rear brakes will release, allowing engine power to go to the rear wheels, and continue to power the vehicle forward. Very dangerous to drive on snow/ice. Parked vehicle under these conditions. Consumer has filed a report with NHTSA auto safety hotline line. Also, the dealership Chrysler/Dodge has not corrected the problem.

Brakes started to fail at 8000 miles. At 18000 miles the brakes were repaired by the dealer. Tech found rear drums out of round. Front rotors were turned. The problem prior to repair was bad vibrations when applying brakes. Truck now has 37000 miles and the problem is begining again. Started to notice vibrations at about 25000 miles. Will dealer or mfg. Cover this problem at this point?
