Also refer to NHTSA complaint 10002464. I was driving my '99 Dodge Ram and all 5 lugs on the right front wheel sheared off and the wheel came off and careened across a parking lot. The same wheel fell off the same way in 2002.
The contact owns a 1999 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact heard an unfamiliar noise coming from the front end of the vehicle. He arrived at the dealer and they applied grease to the rear of the vehicle. The contact was charged $111 for the repair, however, the noise still persists. The speed was unknown. The current and failure mileages were 117,600.
Left front wheel partially broke loose, with loss of steering, causing pick-up to veer sharply to left, striking a security fence, and severely damaging left front, under-carriage and left wheel suspension. Speed approx. 30 mph
Truck came with oe wheels-16X7 steel/bright trim ring quantity of 4 plus spare. 3 of the 4 wheels have cracks. This vehicle has never been used adversely nor has it ever been used in any off-road conditions. Mileage is daily driving only. All four rear wheels are bent. The only people until now to touch this vehicle have been Dodge dealerships(sandoval in nm. They also eventually fixed the speed control which would add 5 to 20 mph to a setting at any time. Very dangerous. I have tried to get T a Dodge dealership here (laramie, wy)to look at my rims and they give me the runaround.
While traveling at the speed of 55 mph on the highway the left rear wheel broke off the housing unit, causing the vehicle to steer out of control and slide into a stop. Wheel then bounced down the road into the rear windshield, and driver sustained an injury. Dealer has been contacted.
Vehicles inner wheel well liner/the gas tubing goes down in front of the rear wheel, and without the cover it is open to rocks hitting it. The liner is to protect it, and it is not there. Dealer contacted, and is not aware of the problem, manufacturer cannot duplicate problem.
