This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
I was driving my 2000 Dodge Ram 1500 4X4 truck on interstate going 70 mph and started to slow down due to exit traffic. When I applied my brakes my truck went into acceleration. No cruise was on. Kept applying brakes and truck kept acceleration. Kept applying brakes and finally got speed down to 20 mph. I'm in panic mode and not knowing what to do I put the truck in park and then turned the key off. Brakes smoked badly. Got out of truck to see problem and the throttle was stuck. Started truck up again and it did the same thing but this time put gear in neutral and turned key off. Unstuck throttle again. I was able to get truck to a mechanic. They checked the throttle kit and it seemed ok (it was not one that was on a recall list). The mechanic didn't really know what caused problem. They put a new kit in and cleaned fuel injectors and it has been running ok. Fortunately I was on interstate hwy. If I had been anywhere else I feel certain I would have caused an accident. This caught me by total surprise and not knowing how to handle a vehicle in this situation I feel I was pretty lucky that I didn't burn my brakes up, blow my transmission or get killed. I wish I knew what really caused this problem.
This van is rated at approx. 13mpg city and 18 highway. I get single digit mpg and all my driving is highway miles. I took to dealer and they ran all diagnotics and codes and said that everything checks out O.K. I constantly monitor my fuel tank when full and divide by 17,5 gallons(it has a 35 gallon tank) into miles on odometer after reset and tank full up. I only get about 170 miles per half tank. Please help.
