I bought my truck brand new in daytona beach, fl in 2001. About 2 years ago the dashboard started cracking and proceeded to get worse. When I was driving Monday, 11/26/2012 part of the dash fell out and now there is a big hole in my dashboard! I have been looking for a replacement but found nothing I can afford.
Developed a crack in the dashboard along the edge close to the windshield. A month or so later multiple cracks developed all over the dash. 2012 chunks of dash falling in caused lights to fail. Took the vehicle to vann Dodge in vineland, NJ to be inspected, got response from Dodge that there is no recall on the dash board on my 2001 Dodge Ram, and that because of the mileage and year there is nothing that can be done to correct this issue approximately 80K miles when inspected by vann Dodge. When the cracks first started to develop I thought that it was because of the cold weather, but after investigating online I have found that this problem exist all around the country with the 2001 Dodge. It is no longer a cosmetic issue, it is a safety issue do to the fact that the wiring is now being compromised by being exposed to extreme temperatures hot and cold!!!!
My Dodge ram1500 has a dashboard problem that seems to run in that year truck. The dashboard started cracking and has continued to do so. I think that there should be a recall to repair this problem before something drastic happens. The repair shop says there is no recall for that problem and the repair cost will be appprox. $1000.
Cracks in plastic of dashboard, instrument panel, and the glove box hinges, started developing as soon as I bought it. I got a dash cover to try to help but it didn't. it is now 90per cent shattered and in pieces laying on the electrical parts inside the dash. If I get in a crash these sharp pieces will go flying. Will the airbag deploy because of bad plastic?

Since approximately, Nov 2009, the entire dash of this vehicle has been slowly cracking and deteriorating, several pieces have fallen inside the dash which make retrieveing the broken pieces impossible. There are holes in the dash as well as numerous cracks, my concern is this ongoing issue will lead to a major collapse of the dash driving down a road, and or the unretrievable pieces rubbing on wires and causing a short resulting in a fire. I have tried to reason with daimler Chrysler Corp, but all I get is there is nothing we can do. I have never had such a issue with the dash cracking and deteriorating that this is a concern as well as a safety hazard for myself as well as other Dodge owners. (the area I am trying to describe is from the top of the dashboard clear to the windshield ) all I would like to do is get the dash replaced, so I can pass this vehicle on to one of my kids without worries of any further incidents thanks for your time, I look forward to discussing this matter with you.
The dash in my 01 Ram 1500 is cracked all over and falling apart it has to be a safety hazard for air bags deploying and sun getting thru holes can melt wires causing fire..everyone U talk to with Dodge trucks has this problem they need a recall on dash fast.
The dashboard had one crack in it when it had about 38,000 miles, then at about 40,000 miles the dash started cracking worse and now at 52,000 miles it has cracked so bad there are large pieces of the dash broken completely out of it. This is a very common problem with 98-06 Dodge Ram's and Dodge knows about the problem. My main concern is with the large pieces being broken out. If you get into an accident large pieces of the dash could go flying and injure someone or when and if the airbag deploys the force of that could cause these pieces to go flying or more pieces to break off and go flying, which could be very dangerous in a collision.
I bought my Dodge Ram 1500 in 2000 brand new actually the truck is 2001 got it one year ahead. If I remember like around 2004 four years after I bought the truck I noticed some cracks on the dashboard then by 2005 the dash was completely gone everything fall down inside, I can even hear the pieces all the time when I am driving. I never wanted to take the pieces out and up to this date most of the dashboard is still inside the dash in pieces. A year ago I noticed that when my ac is on the air keeps shutting down but its not the ac that gets off is the vents that closes, I can even hear when they open back then I start to feel the air blowing again. I don't know if because all the dash pieces are inside on top of the vents and maybe some of the got inside the vents or something. I also bought the cup holder because it fall in pieces as the dash. Also the sunglasses compartment door its broken so I don't use it any more because I can close it. I bought a dash cover because the replacement for the dash its very expensive. Even the aftermarket one are very expensive. I wish I could have my dash replace, Dodge needs to step up on this and fix the problem because I am not the only one, its every single truck out there with the same problem. I hope to hear soon that there's a recall for the dashboards.
I could not get past the enter 'failed component' requirement so I had to chose air bags because it is the closest component related to the dash area I could find. I am one of the thousands of people who owns a Dodge truck with a severely cracking dash. I realize that this may not seem to be a 'safety' issue, but believe me, when you have a dash that is cracked into pieces with numerous sharp edges it should be. I would never let any child be in my truck unsupervised because this dash is so bad I truly believe an injury could result from contact with the sharp edges. I realize Dodge would be out an incredible amount of money to recall this problem, and I've also been told they are still selling the same bad plastic dashes as replacements, but something should be done. At least they could offer a new dash made from different material at a much more affordable cost. Please find a way to help those of us who are trying to cope with this problem...thank you for your time.
The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500. The contact stated that the dashboard developed cracks. The vehicle was taken to the dealer and the contact was informed that the failure was common, but the manufacturer was not providing assistance. The failure mileage was 95,000 and the current mileage was 97,000. Updated 06/06/12 additional concern are the deployment of airbags. Updated 06/20/12
I own a 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 laramie slt, purchased used in 2004 from the original owner. The dashboard began to crack within the first year I owned the truck. I recently had to have the heater core replaced, which requires removing the dashboard. The dashboard is now full of holes and larger cracks. I believe it poses a danger to me and any passenger in the event of an accident, or the deployment of the passenger airbag would likely cause the dash to do harm to anyone hit by any piece of it. I am told that Dodge is aware of the problem and will do nothing about correcting it.
I have 2 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 quad cab. And both dashes look like a bomb went off. One of my trucks I was driving and all of the sudden I hear boom almost causing me to get into a bad accident, thank god I could go into the ditch and stop the truck. But long story short both my dashes are bad and no one wants to assume any responsibility over it. I have been forced to park both trucks because I'm scared to drive them. One blew up so bad that it caused the windshield to crack.
The dash is cracking and caving in. Radio isn't working now due to cut or burnt wires. The passenger side airbag could deploy at any sec with all the cracks and pieces fallen.
My Dodge Ram 1500 truck's dashboard started breaking up into pieces and has become worse since 2007. Pieces from dash are falling down into the area that houses the speedometer & other electrical components that are vital to the functioning of the vehicle plus we are very concerned about the air bags being exposed. Every time we go over a bump in the road.....pieces fly off the dashboard & surrounding areas of the dashboard.......my granddaughter was hit by one of these pieces. After checking on computer, I found out that this problem has existed for years on the 2001 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup, complaints range from California to Florida...I am very concerned our safety and the safety of others. Please go online and check complaints about this problem.
My dashboard was cracked when I bought it, and this week an entire piece fell in and now slides around under the dash. I have read online from other people that this can cause electrical problems, including headlight failure. The plastic is also very sharp. A recall is necessary because this could be dangerous.
Two- three years ago years ago I notice a break in my dashboard that break has led to the dashboard falling apart exposing wiring. When the dashboard cave (part of ) in all the gauges stop working (speed, temp. Gas, ect.,) and the air bag warning light came on. This happen while driving.
