pretty bad
steering problem
Took my Ram Daytona for an oil change at the dealership. I was told my tie rod ends were loose and my rack and pinion is leaking and needs to be replaced. This is only 6000 miles out of warranty. I was told it would be $1000 to replace.
So much for quality and pride in workmanship... my next truck is going to be an import. Ford and Chevy are just as bad as Dodge when it comes to this stuff.

The quality is now to a point where Dodge sucks, 35,000 miles .... rack and pinion gone, front shocks gone, needs both lower ball joints, EGR Valve replaced yesterday, Belt tensioner pulley and idler pulley replaced at 34,500, power steering pump replaced at 34,000, sway bar links replaced at 34,000, engine replaced at 32,000, rotors and brake pads replaced at 33,000, alternator at 32,500, shocks and tie rod at 30,000, this has turned out to be a money pit and a piece of crap for a truck ....damn lucky I did not take this 4x4 4-wheeler or it would have never made the 10,000 mile mark. Love dodges all my life ...hell I have 2 darts and a 96 4x4 also .... but next truck will not be a dodge ... going ford or import ....never thought i would have said that .... hope dodge helps some owners that own pieces of shi* .... no vehicle should have this much wrong with it.

I noticed the problem right after the warranty expired. Its ridiculous that the replacement was not taken care of under the warranty. With only 18000 miles on the vehicle it is obvious that it was defective.

One would assume after paying over $50,000 for your vehicle you would not have a catastrophic failure such as a complete power steering loss under 60,000Km. Oh well, these things can happen right. But twice? One year later, and just over an additional 10,000km another failure? Power steering loss is dangerous stuff. Like seriously. Let them go bankrupt. Daimler-Chrysler.... what a joke. And to think they supposedly have a quality management system (QS-9000). Apparently remodelling every year is not a successful business plan for fiscal viability and reputation. Lets try again but this time dont alter each models platform every frigging year and build them better, and more efficient. Some mistakes are easy to repeat, this one isnt. Would not recommend a Dodge.

I took my 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 to get the oil changed last week and they told me I had a leakage in my power steering and needed to get it checked out! I have yet to take it in, but I thought I'd check out the internet to see if others have had this problem and sure enough, I found many others who have had power steering leakage problems with Dodge Ram 1500 trucks! I have 70K miles and fortunately still have use of my extended warranty. Will get it checked out at the dealership and keep you posted!

Had leaking seals on my rack&pinion. dealer wanted about $1000. I got one at autozone for $185. changed tierod ends while i was at it $35. apiece. alignment about $90. Fluid is synthetic transmission fluid $8.00 apiece. Changed rack in my driveway in 3-4 hours & im no mechanic, you need some mechanical nohow though. Final cost about $360. Now im waiting for my rear fenders over wheelwell to start rusting through. Dont let any crap buildup under wheelwells

Took my truck in for 30,000 mile maintenance and to find out why my service engine light came on. Was told egr valve caused the engine service light to come on . Cost $370.00 Then to brighten my day I was told my rack and pinion was leaking and it couldn't be repaired had to be replaced. Cost $1,000 plus something, I stopped listening at this point. I pointed out that this truck has no where near the wear and tear to justify this and why would I spend that kind of money to replace the steering with the same garbage It was suggested that I should drive the truck more. I explained that my job takes me away from home about 8 months of the year and I couldn't take my truck with me.This is some of the lamest bs I have ever heard.
if anyone knows of after market steering systems for these trucks. Please let me know.

First rack started seeping right before my 3 year warranty was up, approx 24,000 miles. Now I have 55,000 and it is leaking again. It looks like they are good for 25,000-30,000 miles!
