This data is from the NHTSA — the US gov't agency tasked with vehicle safety. Complaints are spread across multiple & redundant categories, & are not organized by problem.
So how do you find out what problems are occurring? For this NHTSA complaint data, the only way is to read through the comments below. Any duplicates or errors? It's not us.
The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 equipped with nitto terra grappler tires, size: 285/70R17 116-T. while driving approximately 30 mph, the tread separated from the rear passenger side tire prematurely. The contact was able to coast the vehicle over to the side of the road. The contact applied a spare tire to the rear passenger side tire area. The vehicle was parked at the contact's residence due to the failure. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The contact was waiting to determine if the manufacturer would investigate to determine how the tire separation occurred. The VIN was not provided. The vehicle and tire failure mileages were not available.
While driving at a speed of 30 mph the outside sidewall and tread completely separated on the tire. These were cooper discoverer S/T LT265/70 R17 made in Utah 02/05. The side wall remained on the rim as well as the remaining parts of the tire, it was wide open between the tread and the sidewall all the way around the tire. Not a "blowout" the tire came apart. If this would have been at highway speed I wouldn't be writing this.
