Having experienced the "Dodge death wobble" several times, I am already cautious when driving at highway speeds. I was crossing a bridge and hit the expansion joint on the exit side. The truck veers hard left and I cross the middle lines and am halfway into the other lane. I had the wheel turned ninety degrees past straight and the truck continued pulling left. A motorist in an oncoming car veered sharply right and we narrowly missed a head on collision. The truck started to respond to my turning right as all the other occupants asked what happened. I showed them how far I was turning right to go straight, and I let the wheel turn back to center and the truck darts hard left again. By this time I had greatly reduced my speed, so it was much more controlled. I pulled over and inspected the front end of the truck, expecting to find something broken or disconnected, but it was all there and right. I had my wife turn the wheel back and forth and it was all functioning properly. Not knowing what else to do I cautiously pulled back onto highway and it was fine. We were almost in a serious collision. I have zero confidence in this vehicle at highway speeds.

While going about 65 mph, hit a joint in the road on an overpass. The front end started shaking violently and continued to do so until the truck was slowed to about 30 mph. This isn't the first time this has happened. I've had it checked by a couple mechanics and a dealership. No one saw anything that should/would cause this to happen. After this last incident, I took the vehicle to another dealership who told me it was the steering dampener. They noticed it was leaking. I have been under the truck before and it wasn't leaking prior to this 'death wobble, ' rather, I feel that is leaking because of the violent shaking. I know of 3 other people with 2003-2006 Dodge Ram 2500's that have also experienced this. A simple search on the internet gets thousands of hits. Dodge needs to fix this problem.

Backing out of a parking space; I heard a snap. As I turned the wheels to the left to pull forward, I heard another snap. When the pickup straightened out, I heard several popping noises and the steering caught. I rolled forward and the wheels didn't respond; the left tie rod had sheered off and the wheels were facing each other. I have the broken tie rod available for inspection. This was the new "improved" system. If this had happened on the highway, someone would be dead. The local Dodge dealership sold me the piece at cost and suggested I call Dodge. I called Dodge and they had not heard of any other instances. There was another Dodge involved in a similar scenario near gunnison, co in August. They were parking a fifth wheel camper at the time of breakage. Again, thank god, they were not driving on the road when it occurred.

Bad front end vibration {death wobble} I have had this problem with this truck for about a year and spent about $3000 on it with the {new and improved steering linkage} that came from Dodge and I still have death wobble. I talked to someone named [xxx] in customer support and she said to take it to Dodge. I just got it back from pro Chrysler Jeep in northgleen Colorado where they told me to keep a full tank of gas and 65 lbs of air in the tires and I wont have the problem. I still have the problem..this truck is a death trap when it starts shaking. I got stuck between a semi truck and a cement barrier when it went nuts and almost caused a huge crash on I70 and the tunnel. Every once in awhile my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 front end will shake violently and just about cause me to crash while driving a various speeds. I've taken it back to the dealership and they have replaced the steering dampener several times yet it still has the problem. I started researching it on the internet and there is a lot of people complaining about the same exact thing. It is described as the shake of death or death wobble. There is no factory recall for this problem but are options for replacing front end parts for about $500-800 dollars. Someone should look into this as people may have died because of it. On 9-10-11 I was driving my Dodge Ram 2500 on the same road as I always do and the steering wheel started shaking violently and I used up 2 lanes to get it under control. It will stop when the speed is about 45mph. I have replaced all the steering linkages with new. (Dodge sells a 2009 upgraded steering system for this truck) installed new trac bar bushings, (originals were ok) installed new steering stabilizer, gear box bearing and had it aligned by the local Dodge dealer. It is now not drivable as the "death wobble" is more frequent than ever. I now have a truck I cannot drive or sell and Dodge will not listen. I have been driving for 33 years and have never experienced such a violent shaking and loss of control. Your my only hope!

While backing out of a typical driveway, the left tie rod suddenly failed (described by our mechanic as 'sheared off at the pivot connection/knuckle'.) the tie rod had been replaced, as part of "updated front tie rod kit", along with steering damper, pitman arm and all ball joints in August of 2010 (91382 miles on vehicle at that time) as the solution to severe 'death wobble.' It should also be noted that all ball joints had already suffered sever wear and required replacement in March of 2011, with about 126223 miles on the truck.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where the failure was located at the steering tie rod. The dealer replaced the steering tie rod and the manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The manufacturer advised the contact that the vehicle was included in the recall associated with NHTSA campaign id number: 11V350000: (steering linkages: Tie rod assembly) and the contact would be reimbursed for the repair costs. The failure mileage was 75,000 and the current mileage was 126,000.

I just purchased my used 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 and decided to take it on a 1500 mile round trip to test it out. At speeds over 55 mph, I experienced the death wobble whenever I would hit uneven pavement. My conservative estimate is that it happened no less than 50 times during the trip. It was very scary and dangerous as many times I was traveling 70 mph with semis right beside me. The Dodge dealer quoted me over $1200 to replace the steering dampener as well as the ball joints, with no guarantee that it would even fix the problem. This could have very easily caused a death if someone less experienced than myself was driving. I am very surprised that Dodge has not intervened with this obvious design flaw as it could very well cause serious injury including death.

Dealer had my truck twice since the recall. He told me that there was a tie-rod assembly, steering linkage and front end needed. I only have 49,000 miles on it and there's a recall for these defects with Chrysler id 11V350000 - they old me that it would cost me $3,000 the first time and then I came back to get parts and now they are telling me they will give me a break on parts - this is fraud if there's a recall plus they should have fixed it the first time for free - it was totally under warranty at both times.

The contact owns a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500. The contact stated while driving 80 mph over a road bump, the vehicle began to wobble. The contact applied the brakes and regained control of the vehicle. The contact took the vehicle to a local mechanic for a diagnostic test. The mechanic notice wear in the tie rods but advised the contact that the wobble was not caused by the tie rod and that the vehicle was safe to drive. The contact tried to order tie rod parts to repair the vehicle but the parts needed were unavailable. The contact stated the pitman arm connecting to the spindle also needed to be replaced. Traveling about 65 mph on I-10 hitting a small bump in the road caused my 2005 Dodge Ram 2500hd 4X4 diesel to shake so violently I thought my break caliper had broken free of its mount. Hitting the breaks only prolonged the violent shaking. I had taken it to my local Dodge dealer and was told my drive shaft had to be replaced. I had it replaced and the shaking repeated. I took it back to the dealer and was told that it was a broken cord in one of my tires and that I needed new tires. Those were replaced with michelins. Again the shaking accrued. At this point I lost faith in my local Dodge dealer. I took my truck to a local mechanic and he told me that this was a common occurrence and I had to purchase a Dodge upgrade kit to fix the problem. 4,000 dollars later my truck was fixed and I have not had any issues in 10,000 miles. When I asked my local Dodge dealer about a recall or warranty work, I was told that it is normal wear and tear and that there were no safety concerns with this issue. On an average day with an average driver someone is going to be killed if Dodge does not issue an across the board recall. The cause of this problem, known as the Dodge death wobble, is due to the fact that lesser grade parts were used to support a steering that requires more support. Case in point; the Dodge upgrade kit comes with components that are of a higher quality, size and weight to better support the steering system.

My Dodge Ram 2500 truck has a violent death wobble issue. At freeway speeds when hitting an uneven bump in the pavement the truck goes into a sustaining death wobble type motion in the front end. It is extremely scary, and quite dangerous. The truck is completely out of control and must be slowed to approximately 30 mph for the wobble to stop. I've taken my truck to the Dodge dealer several times and they cannot find the problem. I've replaced everything, the axle, steering dampener 3 times, ball joints, alignment adjustments, new tires. The problem goes away for a short time but then always returns. I'm afraid to drive my truck on the freeway and my kids are afraid to drive in my truck period. When it happens it's very wild and scary. All the traffic around me slows down and swerves to get away from my truck. It's not only dangerous and scary, but embarrassing too. I don't know what to do. I've tried everything and nothing is working. Dodge is pretty much useless. They turned their back on me since all the components check out fine. They said there's nothing that they can do. I need a resolution for this problem.

We bought an 05 Dodge Ram 2500. On a trip with a small trailer after hitting a bump the front end started shaking violently. (death wobble) after slowing the truck shaking went away. Problem recurred several times on this trip. On way home no issues. Trailer empty. Issue recurred while wife was driving truck to work, no trailer. Bumps an potholes seem to set it off at speeds over 55mph. Took to dealer they found no issues. Put 2" spacer lift on truck with different tires. Problem seemed to go away. Over the past several years truck drives O.K unless hooked to a trailer. Last occurrence was 10-2-11 on trip to South Dakota. Problem recurred 3 times in 5 miles. I made adjustments to equalizer hitch (tightened 1 link) and had no more issues on this trip. This is a major safety issue with these trucks and need to be addressed. Web searches show this is a very common problem. It would be nice if Dodge would issue a recall and fix this issue.
