The contact owns a 2001 Dodge Ram 3500. The contact stated that the dashboard deteriorated to the point that the plastic was warped and caved into the electrical wiring and components intermittently, causing the instrument panel to fail sporadically. The headlights were also low and the contact had attempt to use the dimmer to no avail. Also, the service engine and air bag sensor illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an authorized dealer who diagnosed that the oxygen sensor was defective and that the dashboard could be replaced at the owners expense. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 87,000
2001 Dodge Ram 3500 dashboard failure!! dash started getting large cracks in it several years ago, now I removed it to replace the heater core and the dash fell apart into, literally 22 pieces. After trying to find one I go to realize this is a common and major safety problem for this year and after phone calls to the Dodge dealer and to Dodge themselves they do not care nor do they want to help and good luck affording a new one. Only thing I can find that is reasonably priced is a dash `cover` but I do not even have enough large pieces of dash to reinstall to even cover it.
Approximate incident date is not accurate. The vehicle started with two lengthwise cracks years ago from windshield towards driver and passenger. Within the past two months the once rigid-pliable dash unit has cracked into brittle pieces with some falling into dash interior. Some pieces are jagged and pointed.
The entire dash panel started falling apart in 2006 on my 2001 Dodge Ram. Parts started falling down inside the instrument panel and the dash assembly around the passenger airbag is falling in.

The dashboard is cracked all over and is falling apart completely. I feel there needs to be a recall and this needs to be replaced because this is a safety hazard!!! Dodge has not fixed this issue and I will not buy another vehicle from this maker again until it is fixed.
The vehicle is a 2001 Dodge Ram truck. The dash board has cracked and poses a safety hazard by dangerous sharp pieces. If I was in an accident one of these pieces could inflict potentially severe injury.
2001 Dodge 3500 pickup, bought used 2 years ago with one small crack in the dash cover. Now the cover has disintegrated over the steering wheel leaving a large hole in the cover. There has been no accident yet but there is the potential if left as it is for damage to wiring/components behind the dash that were not meant to be exposed. An internet search reveals many others with the same complaint.
I have a 2001 Dodge 3500 laramie slt. The dash is broke all to pieces. I have researched and this is a problem with alot of Dodge vehicles in certain years. I am a 49 year old blind in one eye male. I have to wear glasses as pieces of the dash breaks off and flies in the air in my truck. I would like to keep my other eye in working order as I am disabled and can not afford to fix the dash or purchase another vehicle. It causes my windows to fog and I can not get them unfogged as to drive in the cold. I can not see out the windows at night especially with on coming head lights. This is a safety hazard to me as well as other drivers. This is a matter that you should really address. It is time that you make a stand for the millions of people who have this problem and make Dodge stand behind their product. You say you will not do a recall because it is not a safety hazard well I am here to tell you to take another look at this situation. Thank you for your input and help with this matter not only for myself but, the rest of America that lives with this problem. Look around and read the millions of complaints where this is concerned.
I own a 2001 Dodge that (just like everyone else) has many cracks from the windshield to the front of the dash (plastic). This problem started about two yrs after purchase. I am lucky that all of the electrical in the dash still works, but it looks like crap. The sunglass door on the overhead console (plastic) is broken. The cup holder (plastic) is broken. This is crazy everyone with an 01 Dodge Ram knows there was a problem with the plastic that went into the interior. Please do what you can to make these people stand behind there product.
2001 Dodge Ram 3500, dash board has completely cracked apart with large section cracked out. It began with a crack extending from the defroster vent and encompassed the whole dash in a matter of weeks. Dodge has refused to acknowledged the problem even though it is wide spread. This is a safety issue particularly if an air bag deployment happened the shards from this dash are like a razor.
I have a 2001 Dodge Ram 2500 diesel pickup and the dash is cracked and have a couple of large holes approximately 8 inches wide. I have heard that there are many other 2001 Dodge Ram's that have this same problem. I am concerned about the wiring behind the dash exposed to the elements. I am concerned about component failure and possibly a fire resulting from exposed wiring.
Entire right side of the dash has cracked and broken away exposing the airbag and other wiring to sun light. I am concerned that the air bag will deteriote or malfunction. Can not place any thing on the dask, it falls thru the dash and is lost forever.
2001 Dodge Ram - the dashboard started cracking and has since cracked from front to back and now into the front trim pieces. Dash pieces are now falling out and popping out while driving. This is distracting and dangerous. I am concerned the cracks may affect the deployment of the passenger airbag in the case of a collision. Thousands of the same reports are visible across the internet. This should be a mandatory recall. Chrysler refuses to fix as this is not a "recall item".
I have an 2001 Dodge Ram 3500. The dash is broken in many places and falling into the dash compartment. I am worried that this may cause problems with wiring or airbag components if not fixed. There is no reason Dodge should not have issued a recall for this problem. It seams to be a very common problems with Dodge trucks.
