Although throttle cable was frayed (4 strands of the cable) it did not fail at the time I replaced it. I just noticed it while performing some preventive maintenance and was afraid that it could stick in the wide open throttle position if not repaired. **dimsii IVOQ entry posted after 12/12/02 cut-over to artemis*734289

Throttle control cable was repaired under campaign id 01V037000. Less than 500 miles later, throttle cable failed while driving. Consumer states hood latch and ignition switch repaired under recall campaign (01V-040 and 00V-135) but failed again.

Consumer was traveling about 5mph and throttle got stuck. Dealership was made aware of the problem. Consumer received a recall notification in the mail #970 for the throttle cable and throttle linkage componets to be replaced, however after becoming stranded and then having vehicle towed it was determined by a mechanic that none of the throttle linkages components were replaced and mechanic informed consumer that the parts were on back order and the the previous dealer that performed the work must have used a defective part and consumer realized that the repair only took an hour.

Consumer has a stick shift, and driving through traffic one day throttle wouldn't return. At that time there was no recall. Consumer purchased a new throttle and put it on. Consumer located recall 01V037000/ manufacturer's recall 97, )and contacted manufacturer. This vehicle was not included in recall due to VIN. Consumer states upon replacing the cable for the throttle, it was clearly evident that the cable was badly frayed and got caught on the rubber tube and caused an open stuck throttle.

Cruise control will get stuck and will not disengage when travling at high speeds. Has not contacted dealership yet. Consumer states when he replaced the frayed throttle cable, he noticed that the cruise control cable was also badly frayed, which had been causing cruise control to stick at high way speeds.

The throttle stuck open because of a frayed cable. When I left the interstate I almost ran into the rear of the vehicles in front of me. I had to shift into neutral so that I could stop. If I would have turned off the engine I would not have had any power brakes. The manufacture must has been awair of this problem as the replacement cable was entirely different and incased in plastic so that it could not bend and fray.
