For 3 months now my car has been having occasional problems with losing power. The mechanic says it's not the tranny, but had no idea what it is. Sometimes it's like the gas pedal comes disconnected and supplies no gas, only working if the pedal is pressed more lightly. In general, when this happens the car emits plumes of black smoke from the exhaust pipe. Other times it runs perfectly. I seem to have the problem less frequently when I have a full tank. Any suggestions on what this could be? Tranny? Fuel Injector? Other thoughts?
