Sitting at a stop light at 7AM, with rear window defrosters on, heard a loud bang like a rock hitting the vehicle. When I reached my destination I noticed that the rear window Passenger side was shattered... I took my truck in for maintenance 12/22/16..Dealer said this was an issue and is checking with Ford on a repair as the vehicle is out of warranty.. Service rep stated do not use rear window defrosters, this was a known issue with the F150 ...

Update from Feb 5, 2017: Vehicle was taken in to Surburban Ford Waterford. The Service manager contacted Ford and they agreed to pay half of the replacement cost.....Better than nothing.

I went on travel for work and when I returned I noticed my back right windshield was shattered. Upon closer examination there were no apparent impact points which would indicate an object had hit the window. Further online research indicates that there appears to be a defect with the defroster which will cause your rear window to randomly shatter. I do occasionally use my rear defroster in the mornings, however the temperature rarely gets below 50 degrees where I live. Since I have no other apparent causes for the broken window I am inclined to believe it was caused from a defective defroster on the back windows.

I have called a local ford dealership as well as the Ford Customer Care Hotline and reported my issued. Both individuals I spoke w/ indicated I had no standing due to the fact my vehicle was no longer under warranty nor had this issue initiated a recall.

I am very infuriated and displeased regarding the incident and more so the response from Ford's Customer Service Representatives as well as the local dealership. I am dumbfounded how there has never been a recall on these windows as, per this thread, randomly shattering back windows when the defroster is utilized is a common issue (reported over 70 times on this thread). Ford needs to take action and rectify the issue. I thought I was a loyal customer but since this incident has occurred am reconsidering my allegiances.

rear window defroster. botton left hand side on the window

Came to a stop and heard a loud pop. looked in the back and saw the passenger side rear window wad shattered and smoke coming from the lower left side of the window. After checking the outside of the window, I saw smoke and a burn area in the lower left side of the window. The glass had shattered but was still intact to the window frame.

Looks like I'm now number 28 to report this issue, and everyone is saying the same thing. WOW rear window just shatters with a loud bang. If I'm #28 how many people are not reporting this issue. We live in a very rural area and my wife is the primary driver if this happened while she was driving the narrow two lane roads we live on it could have caused a bad accident. FORD PLEASE FIX THE ISSUE!!!

Apparently Ford needs to correct this very annoying problem. The noise it makes when it cracks is going to cause someone to have an accident. Going to try to contact Ford because my insurance is more than likely going to make it look like it was my fault!!!!
