Purchased the 2021 Ford EcoSport from Courtesy Ford (new), where I have the regularly serviced the vehicle. However, my ownership experience has been marked by repeated mechanical failures that have escalated to the point where, after only three years of ownership, I am being asked to replace the transmission-?"a repair I believe is both premature and unjustified given the circumstances outlined below. Timeline of Issues and Repairs: July 17, 2023: First experienced significant engine performance problems, particularly with the Auto Start feature malfunctioning, which led to the engine stalling while driving. Despite multiple tests, these issues persisted. Eventually, the engine was replaced, but I continued to experience jerking and misfiring after the replacement. October 2023 -?" January 2024: Despite having the engine replaced, the car began showing worsening jerking and misfiring, especially at higher speeds (60-65 mph or above). February 2024: During routine maintenance, I was informed that a catalytic converter needed replacement due to damage caused by the engine misfiring. I also learned that the starter motors were not replaced during the engine swap, despite it being common to get a tune up at about 80,000 and expecting thorough work after a engine replacement (Is that too much to ask) also being that I get ALL repairs and maintenance done here just for the service -??ADVISOR-?? to tell me you were been supposed to get a tune up, hysterical October 2024 -?" January 2025: The engine started losing power and struggling to rev, similar to before the new engine and catalytic converter replacement. After two weeks, I received a $3500 estimate for starters, coils, plugs, a coolant flush, and code P0128. After waiting for recall plans and assistance, I was informed that the technicians had added the two coils and plugs they initially had on the $3500 estimate and said after test driving it w/ those, they see that a new transmission is needed for $7500.
On several occasions I've experienced delays with transmission shifting internally while in drive. (Had a few powertrain failure codes pop up, was told by shop that it will happen when all 4 wheels try to grip and can't at same time- independence ford). Have code dates in my ford app - and on 12/14/22 it happened again, this time accompanied by heater and blower motor cutting in and out, lights for heater, blower were strobing. (I have video of this issue, it won't upload) the defroster turned on when I powered off the heat and powered on. Ford shop notified and shown video, was told they couldn't replicate it. Had a few more occasions where transmission slipped w powertrain notification again, still unable to replicate per ford shop, despite codes. In July, 23 son had accident w car and delays were noted to guy at ford shop quick lane... codes present as well, and was within my warranty. The shop declined to submit issue to the warranty for my car, telling me to submit it to my car insurance first because of the damage to the front. I was promised by mgr from the shop, it would be covered if my insurance denied it, as it was reported while under 60,000 mile warranty. I was told by insurance companies and ford shop that car was safe to drive post accident until parts arrive, parts arrived and in Oct it was 3,000 miles outside of warranty, again checked with the shop regarding honoring the warranty, the insurance co denied it, stating it wasn't caused by son's accident. I reached out to ford to let them know insurance made a determination denying it and scheduled to drop it off to them. I had double checked again regarding honoring the warranty and was assured it would be. Vehicle was no longer drivable, so it was towed to ford location. I received a call telling me that it was out of warranty, it didn't matter what I was told previously. The manager was mistaken & never should've said what was said & the repair for bodywork was made elsewhere, so I I'm not helping."
I have had nothing but problems with this car. It only had 36 miles on the car & dealership (Frederick Ford, Seaford de) classified it as used. The car wouldn-??t start, had to call roadside assistance. After waiting the car decided to start. Going down road car kept cutting off & on and losing power. Everyone it lost power I had to try and pull over. What if there was nowhere to pull over and it just cut off in the road"!?! The dealership has been a total nightmare. I tried to exchange car & the sales manager was [XXX]. And was yelling he wouldn-??t be able to sell a messed up vehicle. After complaining to Ford all I got was an extensive warranty with free oil changes. That-??s it. I have records of all my car problems. My car has only a little over 15,000 miles cause I scared of driving it. I go back and forth to work that-??s about it. I have 9 times my car has messed up from 04/2021-to 10/2022. 1x -[XXX] 3x- [XXX] 4x- [XXX] 1x- [XXX] Now There a recall on a car I haven-??t even driven over 15,000 miles?!?!" This is the second time this has happened resulting in loss of my reliable transportation to/work, major repair while still in warrenty, WITHOUT vehicle loaner, rental or replacement during that time. I was again at the top of a steep hill- this time heading onto the highway- but midway into one of the busiest intersections in town. I heard a loud sound followed by mechanical spinning/winding when I try to accelerate on the green light. When I tried to drive or remove my food from the break, my car went backward down the hill and into oncoming traffic. Restarting my car didn-??t help as park and drive didn-??t engage. The only control I now had was the steering wheel and brake system. There were no warning signs before, during or after the ordeal. I-??m not certain my lighting system worked on the outside of my vehicle as cars continued to approach the line I was in to turn left despite my hazard lights. My lights and electrical system did however work internally. I called Ford-??s roadside helpline and told them I was trapped on a hill with limited control, with piles of cars behind me and I was afraid my brakes were also at risk of failing. I emphasized the emergency I was in. However, Ford Roadside was only allowed to dispatched a tow truck from 73 minutes away because the company located just 10 minutes away was not in contract with them. I also called the police to assist with traffic build up behind me as I was blocking traffic and in serious danger because I couldn-??t exit the car without it rolling. I also called the out of contract tow company and paid the $200 out of pocket. I spent over an hour holding my foot on the break before help arrived.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford EcoSport. The contact stated that while parked in a parking space with the vehicle in drive and the brake pedal depressed, the vehicle started to roll. No warning lights were illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. After investigating the failure, the contact related the failure to NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V905000 (Engine and Engine Cooling), and the VIN was included but parts were not yet available. The manufacturer was notified of the failure but referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline for assistance. The failure mileage was unknown.
The contact owns a 2021 Ford EcoSport. The contact received notification of NHTSA Campaign Number: 23V905000 (Engine and Engine Cooling) however, the part to do the recall repair was not yet available. The contact stated that the manufacturer had exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The contact stated that the Auto START/STOP intermittently locked the vehicle. After being idle at a red light and attempting to accelerate, the vehicle stalled. The contact restarted the vehicle and was able to continue driving. There were no warning lights illuminated. The vehicle was hesitating while attempting to accelerate. The failure occurred three times before the vehicle was taken to the dealer. The failure recurred approximately one month after the vehicle was first repaired. The contact stated that after the vehicle was shifted in reverse, the vehicle failed to respond. The contact stated that the accelerator pedal was depressed, and the vehicle responded, however, the vehicle failed to exceed 10 MPH. The contact stated that after arriving at the residence, the vehicle was turned off and restarted and there was a loud pop coming from the engine compartment. The vehicle was towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed and determined that the transmission had failed. The transmission was repaired after the first failure. The dealer diagnosed that the transmission had failed again and needed to be repaired; however, the vehicle had not been repaired after the second failed. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 21,485. VIN tool confirms parts not available.
A low engine oil pressure notification popped up on my screen while driving on the interstate and then my car slowly stopped letting me accelerate over 65 mph. I had to get to the nearest exist because the car felt as if it was losing power. The car is now at a dealership waiting to be checked out. Nothing showed before this message and it came suddenly on Tuesday 12.12.23
Several times now my engine has shut off while driving and in the middle of coming to a stop. Luckily my breaks still worked with the vehicle shut down. I'd have to put in park and manually restart the vehicle to continue driving. This is something that puts myself and others on the road at risk.
Check engine light came on at 24k miles. Alert on Ford Pass app said the engine wasn't heating up to operating temperature fast enough. Had a second Alert come up the next time I drove the car saying there was an electrical issue in the vehicle causing anti lock breaks and other important driver assistance features to not work including traction control.
I started my vehicle and got out to finish loading up my stuff and it slipped out of gear and flew down my mainly flat driveway backwards. My passenger door was open still and my car hit my husband's truck and peeled back the passenger door all the way to the fender. Since the incident, my car will randomly chime warning lights while driving (ex: road hill assist, service brake system, phone volume when my phone wasn't connected ). I took it to the dealership and they done tests, but the conclusion was not based on the truth because they stated I had an aftermarket product plugged in that never shut off but it does after an amount of time and its just a charger/fm transmitter because i cant connect to the car by bluetooth anymore... Luckily no one was behind it or got hurt, but honestly terrified to drive it because it's so unpredictable.
According to the dealership, the axle seal tore and leaked transmission fluid. No lights, warnings or messages ever appeared in the days leading up to or following the incident. I noticed a mechanical whining sound about 24hrs prior to the incident (what the dealership later explained was transmission pump) however my car still drove normally otherwise. On my way to work, in a busy intersection with a steep hill, I heard a loud mechanical grinding sound when I tried to accelerate. After which, my card jerked backward and started to drive in reverse instead of forward despite being in drive. I was able to break before hitting oncoming cars. Luckily no one was injured by my moving in the wrong direction or suddenly stopping in an intersection. I was scared to drive my car and took it to the dealership the following Monday. They diagnosed the torn axle seal several days later. I have approximately 13,000 miles on this vehicle and have meticulously maintained it at the dealership of purchase.
The vehicle locked up and would't move at 10,000 miles. We were lucky that the car was in someone's driveway instead of on the road. The vehicle was new at the time of purchase. I have a relative who is an auto technician and he said that he has experienced this problem with Ford transmissions many times.
Upon normal acceleration at a stop light, the car accelerated normally for about 2 seconds and then a loud grinding sound followed and I lost all acceleration in the middle of a busy intersection unexpectedly with cars having to slam their brakes behind me and steer into other oncoming traffic to avoid hitting me. The car was able to slowly cruise through the light however the brakes also stopped working so I could not bring my car to a stop once I was through the light and had to use the emergency brake to stop the car from rolling. Had this same issue occurred while driving my normal route to work in Houston rush hour traffic I could have been killed or killed others in a wreck as I had no control over my vehicle. No warning lights came on. This issue occurred exactly one week after routine scheduled maintenance that I did at the Ford dealership 2000 miles ahead of when the suggested manufacturer maintenance was required. That same dealership refused to diagnose the vehicle any sooner than 6 weeks. It has now been seen at a new dealership and I was told the axel needed to be replaced and there is transmission fluid leaking out of the car.
