Ford Preliminary Evaluation PE23021: Seat Belt Pretensioner Inadvertent Deplo
2019 Ford Expedition
Seat Belt Pretensioner Inadvertent Deplo
Seat Belts:Pretensioner
- Summary
- The Office of Defects Investigation (ODI) has received 10 complaints alleging seat belt pretensioner inadvertent deployment in model year 2019 Ford Expedition vehicles manufactured by Ford Motor Company. Some complaints allege hearing a loud, explosion-like sound immediately followed by the seatbelt tightening around the occupant-??s torso area. The complaints also allege a burning smell and smoke filling the cabin of the vehicle after the incident. The complaints do not allege a crash occurred that may have resulted in the deployment of the pretensioner system. Seat belt pretensioner replacement is required after deployment to restore functionality. ODI is opening this Preliminary Evaluation (PE) to determine the scope and severity of the potential problem and to fully assess the potential safety-related problems. To review the ODI reports cited in the Opening Resume ODI Report Identification Number document, go to NHTSA.gov.
