This generation F150 is a pain in the rear! This is my second one. The first one wasn't too bad it was a 2006 and it performed ok. This one has had the transmission go bad, for some reason #5 cylinder keeps misfiring, I have replaced the coil and plug on that one 3 times in a year, it idles rough now, and still codes out as misfire #5. The last mechanic said it needs the timing chain redone and I just don't have the money to do it. So it will be put off. I won't buy anything with this 5.4 motor again. I had a 1996 F150 and it ran like a top for years, never had to drop big money into it. I also had a 1977 F250 that didn't give me this much grief. Has Ford's quality really gotten this bad???

Had the transmission replaced in early November of 2015 after it being in the shop for 3 weeks with no diagnosis despite the transmission failing to go over 25 and revving into 4-5 RPMs. The transmission fluid was scorched despite it having been flushed in July of 2015, and the transmission was deemed not repairable.

As for what I have been reading this is a part failure, direct drive snap ring breaks. i serviced my transmission at 72,000. I am an ASE certified, Allison Gilded Master Technician. I work on everything from planes to semi trucks, heavy equipment,light cars and truck to race cars.Drag race cars, rally cars, stadium trucks, mud trucks, stock cars, etc. So I have the schooling and the under the belt service needed to do a transmission filter change. Oh, I spent 10 years working for Jasper Engines and Transmission exchange. R&D tech, transmission warranty,machining torque converters, tearing transmissions down, inspection, cleaning, building all the way to testing them. So, when i dropped the pan first thing i noticed is that the transmission had never been serviced, die to the dipstick hole plug still being in the pan. Along with that i found numerous pieces of what looked like 1/4 of the direct clutch snap ring, in several pieces. The magnet was covered in metal shavings lots of brass coloring and some lining debris. i cut open the filter to check what was in there and lots of more fragments of metal, clutch plate linings, some slivers of seal edges and what appears to be roller bearing pieces. As I have been reading and still using the truck as my daily driver. The shifting is getting more erratic. It doesnt always downshift to 1st gear so when you takeoff from a stop sometimes you take off in second which almost immediately throws a code.I keep my ELM327 blue tooth OBD2 reader plugged in the truck at all times and record each time i drive it. As to log the data so when the transmission finally does fail completely, I will know all data that was occurring at the moment of failure. I really hope im not far from my shop when it does. Im hoping Ford Motor Company will allow me to give them the transmission and all of the information in exchange for all the necessary components to install the Mustangs manual 6spd BW56. I am really tired of Fords denial of the issues in this vehicle. What the transmission does...... at takeoff will drop to first sometimes, it needs about 2700 rpm to shift to 2nd,then in 2nd needs roughly the same rpm to get the 3rd gear shift then all the way to 4500 to get 4th gear, almost every time it will shift back to 3rd then to 4th again and as long as you are applying throttle will remain in 4th gear. When you slightly let off the accelerator it immediately drops to 3rd gear. Shifts up to 4th then back to 3rd depending if you are accelerating or not. I have added B&Ms Trick Shift which helped for about 3 weeks then back to the same again. I have roughly 104,000 miles on this truck now. Im driving it to get my 5th wheel tomorrow. It seems to shift better with a loaded trailer behind it due to it creating more RPM to get moving which pushes up the pumps line pressure. I have put almost 30,000 miles on it with this issue. With the high rpms it seems to misfire frequently up to 35 to 40 misfires on a 2 hour drive. I dont drive this thing like im driving Miss Daisy. I push this truck hard because its built Ford tough.So come on Ford Motor Company. Im risking being broke down and walking to get information for you. The least you could do is send me all the parts to swap it to a manual. I will at time of transmission failure pull the transmission gather up all electronic files and ship it to you for analysis. I think that all drivers of any make or model of vehicle should plug on of the blue tooth devices in and record what their vehicle is doing. Data log it so the exact conditions are know. Plus its a great way to see real time information of what the vehicle and its components are doing. BHP, fuel economy, temp, rail pressure, tank pressure, etc. I can even see how much slip i have thru the torque converter,the transmissions temperature, i get GPS speed versus vehicle tire rotation speed. I use Torque Pro most of the time and Dash Command on occasion with the Ford plug in. I have been trying to use Car Diagnostics Pro but it doesnt seem to like to work with the ELM327.

The 5.4L has been running strong, but all of the crap i keep reading about worries the hell outta me. I bought this 2007 with 67,000 miles on it. It does show on the vehicle report that the engine and transmission have been changed before. I do like the way it handles, it is stock height, with 305/40/R22 on it. with 6 people inside and my 1000lb toolbox and tools in the bed i can take almost all corners at about 30mph above suggested speed. I tend to drive the tires off of my vehicles. lol. I would preffer not to have any issues on a vehicle i bought for 12,000.00 cash. I vowed never to own a ford again but bought one anyways and my 94 jeep grand cherokee AWD still out preforms this truck. But what can i expect.Jeep is Dodge and Dodge is Mopar and Mopar rules!

It sure would be nice to see Ford take responsibility for their failures and confront them head on fix the issues, potentially save lives and keep their customers coming back for more.

I HAVE THIS BEAUTIFUL TRUCK, BOUGHT FROM CARMAX, GOT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY.

LAST YEAR 2015 TRANSMISSION FAILED LIGHT CAME ON AND OVERDRIVE WENT OFF. TOOK TO AAMCO THAT'S WHERE IT WAS COVERED UNDER. THEY HAD IT FOR ALMOST 2 WEEKS THE TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. AFTER THE REBUILT OF MONTH OF DRIVING IT HAPPENS AGAIN. THIS HAS HAPPEN 6 TIMES. EVERY TIME I TAKE IT BACK THEY PUT IN NEW SENSOR, A TRANS COOLER, AND IT STILL IS HAPPENING A YEAR LATER. AND AFTER THE REBUILT. I HAVE THE DOCUMENTATION TO SHOW THIS. I JUST GOT THE TRUCK BACK FROM LAST WEEK , AND YESTERDAY 8/24/2016 THE TRANSMISSION LIGHT GOES BACK ON.

THERE IS A PROBLEM A BIG PROBLEM THIS SHOULD NOT GET HAPPENING. WE ALL HAVE FORD TRUCK IN THIS FAMILY NO ONE HAS HAD A PROBLEM BUT MINE 2007. PLEASE CONTACT ME. ITS GETTING SO OLD AND A PAIN IN THE BUTT TO KEEP TAKING MY TRUCK IN. THERE IS A PROBLEM. AND NO ONE SEEMS TO KNOW WHAT IT IS. I AM READY TO GET AN ATTORNEY.

Inside of transmission looked perfect, other than tang broken off reverse band. Band is made of cast iron instead of steel, which is why it broke. Shame on Ford for using inferior materials in the construction of their transmissions! I will never buy a Ford again

After 84,000 miles, my Ford Dealer suggested and replaced the transmission of my truck. I was out $3750!!! This transmission should last 200k+ miles. To add insult to injury when I asked how this was possible the dealer's only suggestion was bad maintenance. I then informed him it was his dealership performing the 30k and 60k maintenance of this vehicle.

I have been a loyal Ford Truck owner for 20 years. This was my 5th truck but it will be my last. I will NEVER BUY ANOTHER FORD TRUCK AGAIN!!!!!!
