The tailgate just comes open by itself. I don't know how many times I have opened my topper to have the tailgate already be open and fall. It recently came open when I was on it. I was crawling out of the back of the bed of the truck and as I was laying across the tailgate to make sure I was getting solid footing to step on the trailer I had attached, the tailgate just came open. When it hit the end of the cables with me still laying on it, it came to such an abrupt stop, that it broke 3 of my ribs, bruised my lung, and tore the cartilage on the other end of the ribs. Long story short, 10 days in the hospital. Ended up with double bacterial pneumonia, influenza, and sepsis. I have permanent lung damage. I'm still on oxygen. Then I find out there is a recall on the tailgates.
