I have three trucks at this time that had and is still having fuel tank problems. First was a 2004 F-350 with fuel delivery problems. Dealer replaced injectors for a cost over $2000.00. About a month later same problem, and they investigated the tank because the fuel filter on the frame rail had colapsed from being clogged, replacing the tank and more injectors costing $3500 plus. The second truck a 2009 F-550 with 54,000 miles still in the shop with the same problems. And the third vehicle a 2008 F-550 with under 48,000 miles started crapping out on 9-28-2010. So I had our in house mechanic replace filters on the evening of the 9-28-10 and sent the vehicle out on 9-29-10 to only have it do the same thing. So on the evening of the 9-29-10 we decided to raise the dump body and remove the fuel tank pick-up assembly and sending unit. Upon removal we inspected the inside of the tank. I have never seen so much rust and debris inside of a fuel tank in my life!!! This tank had to be sitting on a shelf somewhere in Fords dungon waiting for its turn to ruin some poor consumers life (with poblems out of our control) who purchased this vehicle in good faith.
If there is anyone out there filling a class action suite please include me. The rust is caused by using substandard alloy in the steel used to form the tanks. A simple metallurgy test will prove it.
