The contact owns a 2013 Ford Flex. The contact stated that the vehicle would not start. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic who stated that the fuel pump needed to be replaced and flushed. The contact stated that the fuel pump was replaced three times. The vehicle was not repaired. The dealer was not contacted. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,717.
Driving down county back road, doing approx 45mph, car shut off. Radio on, no warning lights, heat went out. Coasted to a stop in a church parking lot tried approx 4 times to restart the vehicle, wouldn't turn over. Waited between 5 to 10 minutes, tried again and vehicle turned over with no problems. There is currently a recall on my make model and year, but my vehicle doesn't fall into it per Ford. Recall states, "a component within the fuel pump electric module (pem) may overheat causing a loss of electrical power to the fuel pump. Fuel pump malfunction may cause engine stall. A loss of power to the fuel pump will cause the engine to stall or prevent the vehicle from starting, increasing the risk of a crash." NHTSA campaign number: 16V621000. Ford's number for this recall is 16S31.
