The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. While driving 40 mph, the contact noticed a message illuminating, stating "check transmission". she pressed the reset button and continued to drive. A few minutes later, the light illuminated again. The contact stopped the vehicle and had it towed to the dealer. It was determined that the throttle body failed. The manufacturer that produced the part was no longer in business; therefore, it would take months to have the vehicle repaired. The repair cost was estimated at $345. The contact is currently driving a rental vehicle while she waits for the manufacturer to decide if they will cover the cost of the rental. The manufacturer would not provide compensation because there were no recalls. The vehicle has not been repaired. The failure mileage was 94,000.

The contact owns a 2005 Ford Freestyle. The contact stated that the vehicle loses power and will not accelerate over 20 mph. When he shifts gears, the vehicle suddenly accelerates. He took the vehicle to the dealer and they stated that the throttle body assembly failed. The original part will be available in December of 2009. The dealer will not release the vehicle until the failure is repaired because it is unsafe to drive. Report number 048422169 was filed with the manufacturer and they stated that if he replaced the failed part with an aftermarket part, it would void his warranty. The current and failure mileages were 30,000.

Multiple cases of unintended acceleration, codes indicate failed throttle body. Check engine comes on and forced limited power keeps speed below 25 mph.

06/05/08 during idle vehicle lunges forward, must exert extreme pressure on brake to prevent accident. Wrench light will illuminate on the instrument panel and fail safe engine mode will be displayed. Vehicle will then fail to accelerate when throttle applied but then lunges forward again when throttle released. Very dangerous - almost struck pedestrian! this has occurred several times but vehicle will reset after engine is turned off and restarted. When taken to dealership - no codes were found upon running diagnostic test. Occurred again on 8/3/08 and engine was turned off and restarted. This time engine light illuminated on instrument panel. Taken to dealership - diagnostic test show it to be throttle body problem.

I own a 2005 Ford Freestyle with AWD and the cvt transmission. Recently I drove up pikes peak. On the way back down I used the low range which is supposed to act as an engine brake. It was not nearly low enough to keep vehicle at a slow enough speed to negotiate the road coming back down. At the check point about a third of the way down our brakes were measuring 600+ degrees so we were told we should pull over for at least 40 minutes to let them cool. We did so and went on down the mountain with no problem, but I feel that this is something that should be addressed before someone goes down a mountain that does not have a check point. I contacted Ford Motor Co around the first of July and as of today have received no response of any kind. Thus I felt that I should make someone aware of this possible problem.

: the contact stated while driving 50 mph on dry roads, the instrument panel gauges raised up to the highest readings, then dropped down to the lowest and subsequently did not function. Also, while stopped at a traffic light, the vehicle surged forward without warning while the brake pedal was depressed. Finally, even though the vehicle has a continuous transmission, there was still a moderate shift shock between gears. The vehicle was taken to a service dealer, where the cause of the problems were unable to be determined. The manufacturer was also notified.
