Own 2007 Ford Freestyle -- had major problems with car accelerating on its own, stalling, etc. -- had to replace the throttle body $750 -- yes, I do have the old part.
I own a 2007 Ford Freestyle limited. Starting last year, the car began lunging forward and backward, depending on what gear I was in. We had the car looked at by our transmission guy. They found nothing wrong with the transmission and cleared the check engine code from the computer. The car ran fine for the remainder of the year up to this point. It is now July of 2011 and the same issues are happening yet again. This issue is particularly bad during the summer months, especially when the A/C is running. I have noticed that this seems to be common occurrence among these vehicles and I would like to see Ford issue a recall to correct the problem.
Surging and lurching forward while parking or slowing down. I almost hit another car and a person on the side walk. Two different incidents. This has happened about a dozen times and becomes more frequent and powerful each time. The wrench light has come on the dash board now. 2007 Ford Freestyle.
2007 Ford Freestyle sel w/ approx 71K miles. Vehicle rpms surge at idle or very low speed while in drive (such as maneuvering into a parking spot). Vehicle stalls after putting in reverse, then forward gear, then reverse after idling for a while w/ ac on. After re-starting, does not get above 35 mph (mechanic light comes on and. Until you turn the car off for a while -then restart. The operates more normally. Fuel gauge light doesn't light and the first 1/3 of the RPM range is not lit when the above aforementioned stalling problem occurs (then comes back on). Nobody hurt yet. Tonight I emailed Ford, giving them my VIN and asked them to pursue a recall. Please press them to do that, clearly there is a very serious problem. Today the surging nearly hurt a child in a parking lot; thank god my wife's foot was on the brake.

My Ford Freestyle surges in direction the transmission is in. If in drive it will surge forward, if in reverse it will surge backwards. This occurs every time I drive the vehicle. I'm afraid I am going to hit a pedestrian while trying to back out of a parking space. I'm also concerned when my daughter uses this vehicle because of her inexperience. This problem was identified to be the throttle body and is most predominant during warm weather or when the vehicle is thoroughly warmed up. Had the same problem with our 2006 Ford Freestyle and was waiting for a replacement throttle body when the vehicle was totaled in an accident. Now having the same problem with our 2007 model.
The car leaped forward unexpectedly while pulling up to a stop sign. This happened on 7/02/2011 for the first time. We had this occur several more times in the next few days, always while stopping or parking the car. In one instance the car would of struck a light pole, had there not been a curb there. This seems to occur whether the car is cold or has run for awhile. We are now having to drive this car like it may leap forward at anytime. Ford needs to get this taken care of before some is seriously injured.
My car lunges on its own. It happens several times a day while driving. When backing out the driveway, pulling through a drive through, or turning from a stop. I have come very close to hitting other vehicles. I have taken it to the dealership and they found nothing wrong.
2005 and 2007 Ford Freestyle. In warm weather the car will suddenly surge when stopped with the brake applied, slowing with the break, or reversing with the brake pressed. Believed to be the throttle body and confirmed by auto repair shop. Research has revealed tons of owners with similar problems with the throttle body on these vehicles. Seems quite dangerous to have your car lurch out into an intersection.
When I put my car in reverse, it will suddenly lurch backward without me putting my foot on the accelerator. It occurs occasionally, but not always. I have learned to anticipate this and always keep my foot on the brake until I am sure the area behind the car is clear. I am concerned about this since my daughter will soon be driving. This could be very dangerous for a new and inexperienced driver.
We were sitting in some stop and go traffic with the A/C on and then the car started to jump forward and has continued to do so. Very concerned since this is my families day to day car which my 2 very young children are always in. Ford needs to recall this since this has been known for a very long time.
2007 Ford Freestyle accelerates on its own when brake is applied. My wife and I have both had this happen and we've almost hit people and property because of this issue. Ford dealership said it was a faulty throttle body but refused to fix it while it was under warranty and now wants to charge us hundreds of dollars to fix it.
Our problems with our 07 Ford Freestyle started occurring about a month ago. I started to notice that when I went to pull out into traffic, my car sort of stuttered, then took off. It has done that several times now where it is crucial to accelerate quickly, and I have been so afraid of getting hit because of it. It is like pushing on the gas and not really getting much of a response where there should be. So the most recent incidence occurred when I was leaving the store with a friend and my children. I put my car in reverse to exit my parking spot, and my car took off aggressively. I had to keep applying the break to keep from hitting anyone or other cars. When I let off the brake in the drive gear, my car quickly accelerated with no application of the gas pedal. This could be severely dangerous to myself, my family, and to other people! please recall these cars.
97,000 miles. I have replaced the throttle body twice, new transmission- hole I N the drive shaft. 3 rear brake jobs- the 1st on was by recall. Cracked motorhead 12,000 miles after new transmission. The whole car shakes, squeaks, and pops since the transmission was put in. From the cv joints and back brakes.
The engine surges during braking at low speeds in either reverse or drive. It causes the car to lurch forward or backward (depending on gear) therefore brake must be firmly applied to maintain safe control. It has the potential to be a very dangerous situation since there is no warning and you are not actively controlling the car other than applying the brake. It occurs very frequently. Have been told it is the throttle body on 2007 Ford Freestyle and am going to have it replaced.
I just purchased a Ford Freestyle 2007 and took it to a tach day after the purchase due to the fact that the car surges and cuts of and then will loose power. Tech advised me he couldn't find anything wrong test drove it several times and it never happened after we got home with the car it being to do it a few more times this seems to be something that will get you killed or your family killed I sure hope Ford realizes if someone does get hurt but the car surging like this that the company will be at fault and I hope they fix the issue soon for good.
Ford Freestyle 2007 I have had 2 throttle bodies replaced car continues to surge in forward coming out of reverse. Just waiting for a big wreck Ford does not care what can I do.
I own a 2007 frod Freestyle. I have had trouble since the summer I bought it in 2010 with lunging forward and unexpected accelerations. It does this worse in the summer. I almost ran over the car in front of me at a drive thru the first time. I have had it do this multiple times when trying to park, causing many near miss fenderbenders. I have stopped at crosswalks and had it lunge and almost run over people. I have taken it to the Ford dealership and they couldnt find anything wrong with it. It keeps getting worse as time goes by and I am scared to drive it.
