Bought this car with 69,000 miles on it. IT HAS AN ECOBOOST ENGINE. I don't drive much so only needed an errand vehicle. In December 2021 leaving the grocery store, the car overheated and I had to pull over immediately. There was no coolant in the reservoir and no leak had been seen at any time under the car. Put coolant in the car and it was fine, but had to continually add more coolant and still no visible leak. The check engine light kept coming on saying sensor 2 of the ignition cable, but that part had been changed by a mechanic friend, so we changed the spark plug as well and that spark plug was completely corroded and rusty. After that the check engine light kept coming on periodically and kept saying it was the same problem.
Took the car to the mechanic, and he ran diagnostic test that showed the car needed a new fuel injector for that 2nd sensor location. After that repair, he noticed the coolant was leaking so he did inspected the engine. The coolant plug was corroded and rusted and the coolant was leaking into the engine and was the source from the beginning. We have attempted to order a new freeze coolant plug for this car and Ford advised that due to quality problems, they are not making the part and there is no ETA on when it will be available again.
This Ecoboost engine is designed differently and causes this problem. The car overheats and can catch fire. Ford is hiding their head in the sand and just tells me my car isn't under warranty so kick rocks. There is a class action suit in California being developed. I've hired a lemon law attorney because I am making payments on a car that is sitting at the shop and not drivable and no possible way to fix it. I've read that a new $7000 engine can be put in, but it will be the same engine, same problem. Now I'm trying to find a second car I can't afford to buy and I've got PTSD when car shopping because I can't have this happen again! I won't even look at a Ford now.
