The 2014 Ford Fusion center console has a front lower storage area, that was "extremely useful" when pointed out as a nice feature by the dealer sales person. I thought so at first myself. Then I used it to store my sunglasses case, and an eyeglass case too. While traveling, during a quick swerve when a trailer truck cut me off, the eyeglass case came out the driver's side of the storage area and went under my feet and right underneath the brake pedal preventing me from pushing down the brake pedal. I almost got killed because of that, as I lost control of the car and almost got hit by another car going the speed limit, which was 75 MPH where I was driving.
After inspecting the center console, I saw that there are no sides to the storage area and anything you put in it can and does fall out the sides depending on which way you steer. Also the compartment bottom is sloped towards the sides, almost guaranteeing anything stored there will be ejected from the storage area and go right under your feet.
I recommend never to use this storage area for anything and to write the NHTSA and Ford about making a set of side panels to fit this storage area before someone gets killed by not being able to use the brakes from foreign object intrusion.
