I started noticing a noise and I was not sure if it was always there and just because louder or not. Just one day, there it was. I went to my dealer (who was the one that serviced my car for everything and all oil changes.) He said it sounded like the bearings and he did not work on transmissions and sent me to his friend who confirmed it. My head was swimming (my 2006 Honda Ridgeline was just diagnosed with a blown head gasket on the same day.) I was talking to a friend who used to sell Hondas. She suggested I call Ford and/or go to the website to see if there was a technical paper on the subject. I pulled out my manual and the salesman that I bought the car with put my extended warranty with the manual. I totally forgot about it! I saw it on my invoice but could not find it and thought it expired at 100K. Well, I called Ford and sent it to another dealer near me. The warranty company will cover it and I hope to have it back next week. Of course, it is a rebuilt transmission. (He said it was a Ford rebuilt unit.) The warranty covers $450 of a rental. All in, I suspect I will be pay out of pocket $500 - at the most.
Please note that I am a real estate broker and I drive A LOT! I take care of my car, not just by keeping it clean, but, by keeping up with all the fix-it issues and oil changes that are part of the normal use of owning a car. I listen to my car by driving in silence often and I make sure I completely trust the dealer I bring it to. (Not all dealers are created equal.)
Anyways, my new transmission is guaranteed for 3 years and unlimited miles. I have 117600+ miles now and I hope this is the last issue. My 2006 Honda Accord Hybrid with 6 cylinders was a dream car for 7 years. I had way into 180K miles before it needed major repairs. My husband gets 200K+ on his Hondas. We just traded in the Ridgeline for the 2019 Honda Insight. I think my next car after this will be another Honda. I prefer reliability over status (like a Mercedes, etc.) I was hoping Ford could compete with Honda on that. I really do want to buy American.
