Vehicle was in traffic traveling 5-7 mph applied brakes, they failed to engage. Continued to apply more pressure without effect to speed. After three to four seconds of forward momentum and continuing to apply steady pressure to brakes, brakes engaged forcefully causing the wheels to lock up. This was without warning. This has been happening more frequently and with more randomness. Due to the hating motion, this latest event compounded a prior injury in my back and passenger shoulder (from the seat belt locking). Reported problem to dealer, was told this was normal. This has happened many times prior, this is the first time it caused an injury.

Breaks not responding or working correctly at low speed... At low speed the break pedal will suddenly become "soft" and vehicle will surge forward until the break pedal is moved a significant distance downward in some cases causing a very abrupt stop from having to slam on the breaks. The other situation during slow speed is that the breaks will suddenly stop short and hard. Then you will need to release the break to move forward causing the above situation to occur where the break pedal becomes soft and takes a lot of downward travel to achieve the same level of breaking. I am an experienced driver of many years and have owned or rented hybrids and EV's and none have had breaks that responded as dangerously as the 2022 Ford Maverick. I have nearly hit two other stationary vehicles in a parking lot and while at a stop light as well as nearly hitting someone that was walking between parking spaces as the this vehicle surged forward from a sudden loss of breaking at low speed. As you can imagine this also causes many looks of concern from observers as your vehicle is surging and stopping abruptly while driving in parking lots or traffic. I purchased this vehicle for my family to use and I don't want them use it due to these safety concerns. The breaks work as expected on highways at higher speeds, only issue is during slow speed breaking. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE FIXED.

About two weeks after first buying the car I noticed that when breaking the pedal requires inconsistent extra pressure at times to stop the car. Also while breaking and coming to a slow downhill stop the front end makes an odd clunk sound while jerking to a stop. These things only happen very infrequently, so when I took it to the Hansel Ford dealership (in Santa Rosa, Ca.) they could not repeat the sound or breaking effect. The first time I heard the noise I thought I hit something. I feel that the inconsistent breaking could pose a safety issue, making it harder to stop, and potentially causing a collision. I called Ford consumer assistance, they gave me case # [XXX], and asked me to return it to the dealer. INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

While driving in traffic on the highway at about 20-30 mph, traffic in my lane slowed further. In response, I applied what should have been an adequate amount of brake pressure to slow down and stop if needed given the following distance I had left. Initially I progressively applying more braking pressure, but after a ~3 seconds of this I slammed the brake down. Instead, the vehicle did not slow as expected in the following ~5 seconds. Despite having slammed on the brake at that point, the vehicle only then showed the emergency braking alert and emergency braked in addition to my foot being fully down on the brake. However, this was too late as my passenger and I rear-ended a Toyota Tacoma. They and myself have filed against my insurance, so there is an accident on my car report that I know has depreciated my new vehicle-€™s value. Although I do not currently have the Toyota-€™s estimate, I believe I can ask the owner or my insurance for this. Previously, I had several rear-ending close calls in the car when in traffic and I knew that I often struggled to slow down at stop lights when they first turn yellow. As a result, I-€™ve often sped up to beat the red since I knew my vehicle struggles to brake in time. My car is currently being repaired by the closest dealership to my SO, but I no longer trust the vehicle. I believe my hybrid maverick does not adequately mechanically brake since it over relies on the weaker regenerative braking. The dealer has attempted to replicate the issue at this point but my vehicle is available for further inspection upon request. I am happy to answer any additional questions.

There's an issue every time I pull in a parking spot or when coming to a slow stop at a red light where there's an abrupt braking issue - I slowly press the brake and it would not slow smoothly sometimes even make a loud noise which sounds like the hydraulic brake all of a sudden working when its supposed to be smooth breaking - this is dangerous as it is random and may come as a surprise when just trying to come to a slow stop. I believe its the transition between the e brakes and the hydraulic brakes its just not smooth at all.

The brakes on this vehicle tend to not respond when performing parking lot maneuvers, creeping in traffic, fast food drive-thru, or backing or pulling into garage. At low speeds, the brakes will either not respond when brake pedal is applied or stop very abruptly / grab with a loud clunk sound. Several incidents of not stopping when expected and almost hitting another vehicle or person.

Brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes the brakes will be light resulting in a longer than expected stopping distance. Other tombs the brakes will grab resulting in a jerky stop. The inconsistency makes it difficult to gauge stopping distance and come to a safe and controlled stop.

When my wife and I were driving in a slow traffic situation I was applying the brakes and it was as if the brakes were not working until all the sudden they locked up. we thought we were going to rear end the vehicle in front of us. This happens to my wife and to myself every time we drive our vehicle, It seems even worse in rainy conditions. (This has been an on going problem since we purchased this vehicle.) We feel very unsafe driving our Maverick and Have been told by the dealership that it is the way the brakes work on the Hybrids. Dealer states they could not duplicate the problem, but from there understanding thats just the way the brakes work on Hybrid Vehicle. No one other then the dealer has ever looked at or inspected our vehicle. It has been a issue since I purchased the Vehicle New, No warning lights, No message, No symptoms or problems prior to the brakes malfunction. This happen every time we drive the vehicle. I am almost 60 years old, I have been driving a long time, and have never had a car brake this way, . Definitely something not right.

When traveling <10 mph it feels as though you are stepping on the brakes. The normal pressure needed to apply the brakes does not work. Drivers then have to apply significant pressure and the vehicle abrasively stops. The brake issue has already almost led to several fender benders in stop-and-go traffic (e.g. airport pick; heavily-trafficked roads and drive-throughs).

I never had this sort of problem with brakes in ANY cars BUT the Maverick Hybird. In low speed (around 5mph) the brake is so unmanageable that I worry every time i park. It's unable to move forward 2-3 inch at a time, it goes to 6-12inch every stops and god knows what number it will go on the next try. This is VERY Dangerous to property and to pedestrian because the driver can't control how far the car will go before stops, even it's in low speed.

Our 22 Maverick is brand new and we are experiencing a breaking issue. At slow speeds, we are dealing with very inconsistent results when we depress the brake pedal which range from feeling as though the vehicle won't stop to abruptly stopping. Many other Maverick owners are posting the same situation on social media and we love our truck except for this issue. Ford has notified it's dealers that they are working on a software fix for this problem but many of us feel that there needs to be a recall since any issue dealing with brakes is a safety concern.

Driving northbound on Bertelsen, Eugene, OR 97402. There is a transition from asphalt to concrete with a slight bump 60ft from the stop at the light on Roosevelt. I was traveling 35 and was slowed to 25 mph at that point while actively braking. I went over the transition when the car made a big bang noise like the hybrid system disengaged hard, the tires chirped like the locked up for an instant and then the brake pedal went hard and I rolled into the intersection unable to stop until about half way into the intersection. I called the dealership and they can't look at it for a month and a half and didn't seem to concerned about it.

The low braking system on the 2022 Ford Maverick Hybrid is irregular and unpredictable. In stop-and-go traffic (sub 10mph), the braking system can either give you too much or too little brakes, resulting in the vehicle's brakes automatically grabbing and producing a jarring stop. This can be noticed when pulling in to a parking spot, slowly moving to a stop at a red light or slowly driving through a parking lot. The safety risk is a wreck waiting to happen that could injure the passengers as well as nearby cars and/or pedestrians. In winter driving (which is due soon where I live), the lack of a reliable braking system could spell even more trouble. This issue seems to finally be acknowledged by Ford via SSM 51142 but not externally to the general public. Ford does not recognize this on their site and it took a lot of work to get the dealer to finally look into this and provide the SSM # above. Still the dealer has no confirmed date as to when the software update can be made to fix this issue. The vehicle has been inspected by my local Ford dealer but they of course say nothing is wrong and that I have to wait on Ford to make a decision on when the update is available. No warning signals or messages are displayed when this issue occurs. This issue has been present since I took receipt of the vehicle back on 5/13/22.

Maverick Hybrid brakes are inconsistent. Sometimes you can brake smoothly, sometimes you cannot and the brakes will grab suddenly and lurch. Using Adaptive Cruise is miserable because the truck lurches back and forth and feels like it can't transition between friction and regenerative braking. There are no warnings on dash, truck has 1,000 miles. It is dangerous because getting more braking force than you anticipated can lead to being rear ended and not getting the brake force you anticipate can cause you to rear-end someone else.

I recently purchased my 2022 Ford, Maverick and when slowing to a stop the brakes seem to grab and then suddenly stops as more pressure is applied to the brakes. This has also happened on multiple occasions when I pull into a parking space at speeds of about 5MPH or less when the brakes suddenly grab and the vehicle kinda jerks and can stop suddenly. I would say this has happened about 30-40 times so far. Not sure if it's a brake problem or something else. I will be bringing my vehicle to the dealership next week where I bought it, Tamiami Ford in Naples Florida, but I don't expect to get any co-operation from them as I have had issues with them from the very beginning but that is a story for another time.

Occasionally the brakes don't properly stop smooth at low speeds then suddenly lock up causing a hard stop and somewhat neck pain. Brought to dealer twice but they couldn't replicate the issue. Ford Motor Corporation was contacted by me. They are aware of the issue and working on a future software fix. They refer me to the local dealer who can't do anything until Ford comes out with a fix.

Brakes suddenly grab when coming to a stop at slow speed. Although control of the vehicle is maintained on dry pavement I am concerned that it would cause loss of control in icy road conditions. Also, when this occurs while creeping ahead in heavy traffic I'm concerned that the abrupt stop could cause a rear-end collision from the vehicle following me. I believe that the problem is inherent in the design of the vehicle and that there is nothing that needs to be fixed at the dealership service department. The effect seems to occur when braking force is transferred from the hybrid's battery regeneration mode to actually applying the brakes. The date cited below is the most recent occurrence. The problem has happened sporadically since the vehicle was new, March 2022.

Occasionally when braking at low speed, primarily when coming up to a turn, stop sign or traffic light the brakes lockup causing the vehicle to come to an abrupt stop. Even when not changing the amount of pressure being applied the brakes act like I have applied full pressure. Most of the time it hasn-€™t been a safety issue but there is potential in wet/icy conditions for the vehicle to slide. Also the issue could cause someone to rear end me as they are not expecting me to suddenly stop.

At low speeds with partial brake pedal force applied the car doesn't stop in a controlled manner. It drifts somewhat as the driver increases the pressure on the pedal then it stops abruptly. It feels like the car isn't going to stop at all until at the last instant it almost "panic" stops. Very unnerving and potentially dangerous as the vehicle tends to drift several feet before stopping.

At low speeds, the brakes do not apply evenly or smoothly. When light pressure is applied to the brake pedal, they go from being ineffective to locking in a way that causes the vehicle to jerk as though it has been hit by another vehicle. This is very problematic in slow moving traffic conditions. Safety of myself and others are put at risk because the driver of the vehicle cannot reasonably predict the vehicle braking response. In brief discussion, various dealership representatives said that the behavior is typical for hybrid vehicles. The brake system as not been inspected to my knowledge. There have been no related warning lamps or indicators related to the brake issues.
