Issue: Gasoline engine shutdown unexpectedly while driving. The following identical events occurred once each on June 14 and June 15, 2021. In both instances I was driving northbound with the (adaptive) cruise control set at 72 miles per hour, with Driver Alert enabled, and with extreme west-to-east crosswinds in excess of 50 mph per highway warning signage. While driving I received several driver alert messages -€" assumed to be due to the high crosswinds -€" which I ignored as I was not drowsy. Then without warning the gas engine shutdown and would not re-engage (pressed the accelerator to the floorboard), requiring me to quickly move to the shoulder of the roadway before the vehicle came to a complete stop. I shutoff the ignition, waited for about 30 seconds, and then restarted the vehicle and continued driving without further incident each day despite the fact that the wind persisted and the Driver Alert messages continued. This happened once on two consecutive days and has not occurred since, making note of the fact that I have not driven in severe wind conditions since. Fortunately these two events occurred in sparsely populated areas of Wyoming and Montana with fewer vehicles on the roadway, had it happened on a more densely traveled highway the safety of myself and others could have been at risk.
Problem 1: As a hybrid engine, the engine shudders, shaking the whole vehicle, as i am travelling in a low speed, around 5 mph. I believe this is the cause of engine rpm switching to electric motors. This had occurred multiple times in 3 months of owning the vehicld. Problem 2: brake grab. There has been multiple instances that the brake engages in low speed. This happens when i am not stepping on a gas pedal, like about to park. The brake grab puts the vehicle in a jerk stop. This occurred multiple times in 3 months of owning the vehicle
On several occasions, most recently on February 13, 2023, my vehicle encountered a stop safely warning light and all power was lost. I could no longer accelerate and was forced to pull over onto the side of the highway. This has happened on four occasions when I was attempting to pass another vehicle. The most recent occurrence happened while passing an eighteen wheel truck on a two lane highway. The truck had to brake heavily behind me because I did not have any power to maintain speed as I moved in front of him. Once stopped, I have been able to shut off the key and the system resets and I am able to resume driving. A check engine light will come on but will disappear in 24 to 48 hours.
For now nothing happens but im frustrating about recalls and my dealership is finding the -—braking-–ªï¸Ž problems, the maker me unsafe also by 02/06/23 check -—ENGINE LIGHT-–ªï¸Žcomes on. And they gave me appointment in 42 hours. And also my maverick has a lot oil comes out front oil filter, that's my dealer unprofessional services.
This is follow-up to NHTSA Complaint 11502916 reported 01/21/23: Maverick Hybrid was at dealer for 5 days. First - Brake issue many of us are experiencing was reportedly resolved (TSB 22-2493) by reprogramming PCM and SOBDM-C; brakes seem better at slow speeds now! Second- As for the two incidents when vehicle motor stopped while driving at speeds 50mph+ and accelerating, dealer put a "Hotline Contact" into Ford motor to seek guidance however all test came up with nothing in terms of determining the cause or resolution. Since the vehicle still runs, I picked up my truck and guess I will continue to drive it until 'Russian Roulette' makes truck break down again. Dealer did mention that the SOBDM is an electrical code for brakes and stalling so maybe the brake job also fixed the engine malfunction but they can't be certain. Regardless, experiencing total engine failure at highway speeds is very frightening! Until I have FORD documentation that the problem is with 100% certainty diagnosed and resolved, I will never travel with a passenger or a pet in my truck again for fear of engine failure at highway speeds could result in a horrible tragedy! I have been very lucky not being rear-ended or even worse with the two engine malfunctions; I pray my luck continues as FORD has no answers for me!

Brakes are too sticky and I'm not able to control the braking even if I am using the eco mode which is supposedly slow enough already. Normally happens when I just started moving the car from park and when I am going to stop and go local traffic. When I took the car to the dealer they said they could not update the software because there is no code for braking problem for this car. This car has been showing check engine light since December 24, 2022 and when the check engine light is on I could not access my OBD port. The chicken didn't light has been going off and on for three times now, took it to the dealer and the dealer was able to find a fault code but could not pinpoint the problem yet. When the check engine light is ON, the car does not seem to have enough power to move.
The brakes are hesitant to stop while creeping forwards, then they slam on. There is also a clunking noise when stopping, usually hear it around the last five ft of the stopping distance. I have 11k miles and just needed to replace the transmission. I lost acceleration while on the highway, no warnings or engine light until a few hours after this happened. Dealer stated that this was the transmission. The truck would also almost lock in place while in drive and not level (like at a red light). It would not let go for a few seconds after releasing the brake pedal. I was also told this was the transmission. After the transmission was replaced, the same day, my engine started making a very loud clunking noise and lurching forward while parked in the driveway. This is the Hybrid version of the 2022 Ford Maverick. This is unsafe in general. Losing acceleration on the highway could have caused an accident, luckily did not. Also not being able to move when the traffic light changes poses the same safety risk. This truck is currently back at the dealership undergoing investigation to the the loud noises in the engine. I was also told that the airbag recall would not be fixed unless they deploy.
When I use my remote start option and just put my key in the ignition and start the truck it has a constant burning wire smell. If I come to the truck and turn it off after remote start and just restart it with the key I don't smell the burning wire. If I don't use the remote start option and just start my truck with the key I don't smell the burning wire smell.
When I go to stop the vehicle brakes take longer to catch on to stop the vehicle. This has been an ongoing problem since vehicle pick up March 2022. I drove my truck in the last snow fall we received and when I went to brake it was much worse than in normal conditions. It felt like I slid into the stop and had to push the brakes really hard and my kids heads jerked trying to brake. Clearly is a safety issue. When I was in a drive thru waiting for my food the truck jerked forward and it felt like the transmission was falling out.
When switching from gas engine to electric, the gas engine shook/vibrated violently causing the entire truck to shake like I went over rumble strips. It vibrates quite often when switching from gas to electric and vice versa but this time was dramatically different. P.S. There are no rumble strips by my house.
During driving, the truck will shudder during the transition from electric operation to ICE operation. The car hesitates during this problem. I've taken the truck to the dealer but they couldn't verify the problem. This problem has occurred several times over the past year.
While attempting to accelerate to pass, the engine shut down and a warning displayed to pull over as soon as possible. The engine check light displayed and I only had electric motor operation. There was no power to continue to pass and I was able to return to an open lane and pull off the road without any further incident. I was lucky that the road was fairly open and there was no oncoming traffic. This is the third time this has happened and each time was while attempting to perform rapid acceleration in "normal" hybrid mode.

You mentioned that your vehicle will not turn on, is that correct" [XXX]: yes well the truck died while running in the road, while driving suddenly no sign of power or electricity and without warning became unresponsive in every aspect regarding to electricity (Breaks, Steering wheel, Parking break, Transmission, airbags) given the case the truck is hybrid everything stopped working. I can only imagine how much of an inconvenience this all must have been for you. Accelerated to merge onto highway. Vehicle alerted to pull over safely when possible. Internal combustion engine shut off and vehicle "limped" in electric only mode until I could find a spot to park. This all happened while traveling at 70MPH on a busy freeway. Once I shut the vehicle off, I was able to start it again and travel to my nearest dealer. Dealer was unable to diagnose the issue but advised it was safe to drive home to our local dealer. Truck is currently at local dealer being diagnosed. One CEL of note was P0811 (clutch slippage). This truck is nearly brand new with fewer than 12,000 miles on the odometer. I have had similar Check Engine Lights with similar results of not being able to diagnose. However, this incident of power loss at highway speeds with my wife and 3 children in the vehicle was unacceptable.
At 6k miles my early build 2022 ford maverick hybrid died entirely while sitting in the garage. The truck can be jumped but will not hold a charge beyond that one use. The battery is fine according to the dealer, but it appears internal connections are not correct, causing the truck to die after every use. Ford is saying this might not be under warranty when the truck is an obvious lemon. Other owners are reporting the same issue with the hybrid models on various internet pages. It seems to be a common issue that should be subject to a recall.
While driving on the highway the engine would not go over 50% power, there was no check engine light and the truck felt significantly slower. When I exited the highway the problem persisted and the truck was slow even on city streets. I completed my 100mi trip and when I got home I turned the truck off. 30 minutes later I took it for a short trip and and since then there's been no issues. The loss of power is unexplained and concerning, it would have been difficult to merge on the highway or drive without knowing if my vehicle had full power when I need it.
Car would not accelerate under full power. When I fully depressed the gas pedal, the power meter (hybrid gauge instead of rpm) would only go up to 45%, the engine sounded like it was revving high but the car barely made any power. After a few minutes of this happening I got a message in my instrument cluster to immediately stop the vechicle, along with a red triangle with exclamation point dash light, at which point the car lost power, and started decelerating rapidly (as if in full regeneration mode (electric braking)) in the middle of the highway. I barely had enough time to get over 2 lanes of traffic and stop on the shoulder. I tried turning off the car, and on and the shifter wouldn't even go out of the P position (I physically couldn't turn it.) After a couple minutes I tried starting car again at which point car started with the check engine light on and drove normally like nothing ever happened.
On my way home from a 200 mile trip, approx. 10 miles from home, engine lost power so I glided to the side of the road, as it slowly lurched to a stop on a rural highway. I wasn't able to get it off the highway as there was little to no shoulder so I backed it into a driveway, shut it off, looked under the hood, under body, tires, everything looked normal. Got back in, turned the key and hit the gas pedal hard and it wasn't lurching and said it was moving under all electric and that got me 3\4 ers of a mile down the road on all electric, then it died again and half the truck was sticking out onto the road. Attempts to put the truck in neutral to push off the road into a nearby residential driveway didn't work as every time i would get it in and try to leave the vehicle seat to push it would pop back into park. Dash Indicator display showed the battery symbol and engine lite and Fordpass alert showed up on my phone. Said it was going into deep sleep mode to preserve the high voltage battery power. Found out this morning 09/26/2022 there is a Ford TSB out to repair these battery cable, battery, electrical issues. The 12v battery cable to the engine fuse box connector has a bad weld connection.
