i HAVE A 2008 MUSTANG GT AND BOUGHT IT IN 2010, IT WAS 2 YEARS OLD. I NOTICED AFTER I BOUGHT IT, THE HOOD HAD BEEN PAINTED OVER IN PLACES. NOW I'VE HAD MY CAR 9 YEARS, I'VE NOTICED THE PAINT CAME OFF IN THE PLACES THAT WERE PAINTED OVER AND NOW WHITE SPOTS ARE SHOWING.

I HEARD FROM PEOPLE THAT THIS WAS A RECALL ON THE PAINT ON THE HOOD BECAUSE IT WAS ALUMINUM AND CAUSING CORROSION. I SAW ON THE INTERNET THAT FORD KNEW ABOUT THIS AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT.

I JUST WOULD LIKE MY HOOD EITHER PAINTED OR REPLACED AS I FEEL FORD ALREADY KNEW ABOUT THIS DEFECT.

This car is new compare to 2008 year. Garage kept, do not drive in bad weather snow, rain, etc. I only drive Nov., Dec. for Santa Clause duties.Yes, you heard right. License reads SANTACLZ. Have reported to Ford Customer Care on 6/21/2017. Also reported to Feyer Ford Dealership in Plymouth, N.C. on 6/21/2017. No one cared, blew me off. I also ask service department about recalls on this and they said no recalls. I also reported outside leather on both door panels coming off and this has not been repaired. Feyer Ford told me no recalls on door panels problem. Sell vehicles and they are done.

I Have an 2008 Red Mustang GT with severe paint bubbling on the hood. Would like to know where and how to get this fixed as I know Ford is not going to take care of it. Do not have the money to get the hood replaced and from what I have read, getting it repainted is not guaranteed that it wont happen again.. Not sure what to do..

I now have a car that has a growing bubbling paint rust problem on the hood, greatly affecting the selling/trade in value.I have no idea what I have to invest in the car to replace the hood, if I have it fixed will I continue to have the issue?

Complained to Ford without success. Spoke to several dealerships, without success. Only advice is to fix and save receipts for the day Ford accepts responsibility or loses the lawsuit.

Mustang Shelby GT500 5.4L

  • Manual transmission
  • 11,000 miles

I have been a Ford guy my whole life. I have had 7 cars in my life, all Mustangs. My dream was to some day own a Shelby GT500. The originals were quickly out of reach for me. So when I heard that they were making them again I put my money together and hunted one down.

I was able to get an 08 black with white stripes. I babied this car and was so happy. Until I started to notice some blistering on the front edge of the hood. I took it to my dealership right away. They took care of it and explained that it is a common problem with fords with aluminum body parts. I was happy with the work and did not even think about it again until I was detailing my pride and joy and noticed the blistering coming back.

I took it back to the dealer. This time there was a problem. Ford said they would not cover it again because it was no longer under warranty. This part was true. I could not argue the point. It was summer of 2014. I tried to explain to them that this is a well known issue and that at some point ford would have to stand behind their products. They basically said deal with it and if I wanted it fixed correctly I would have to pay the $3500 for a new hood and maybe one day if there was a recall they will refund it. What a joke. The dealership tried so hard to help and said it was not right and that many people are getting screwed on this. Its an issue with mustangs, explorers and anything with aluminum parts. I am so pissed that I am thinking about getting a new corvette. Something I would never even think about before this.

Now my wife's 2013 Explorer has the same issue. They are fixing it as we speak but they are not going to warranty the repair.

bubbling paint

Thank you, Ford, for tricking me into spending my life savings on a car with a faulty hood. We have had TWO other Mustangs (2007) that had rust issues and were replaced under warranty. The local dealer has refused to submit my claim and has advised that it won't be covered.

Mustang GT 4.6L V8

Ford has determined that this corrosion is caused by minute traces of iron on the aluminum hood that are not removed before painting. Over time, the iron corrodes, causing the paint to bubble. The problem is that what starts out as a little corrosion keeps growing and growing over time. The corrosion now is visible on the front of the hood and is chipping. It must be fixed, and i believe Ford should foot the bill. Ford is well aware of this defect and has resisted fixing it. I have seen this corrosion on numerous Mustangs. Ford has issued tech bulletins on the proper way to fix this so that the corrosion does not return.

I noticed the first paint bubble on the outside lip of the hood just after the warranty had expired. I brought it to the dealer and they took pictures of it to send to Ford. Because the paint was coming off on the underside of the hood and beginning to show on the top, the mechanic recommended a full hood replacement. Ford said no. Ford said they would not be helping at all because the warranty was up. I called Ford in Detroit directly and they told me that they would not be helping me. They said it must have been caused by a rock that chipped the paint even though it was spread throughout the entire hood and was occurring in spots that were not exposed to the outside during operation of the vehicle.

I got in touch with the Massachusetts Attorney General's Office. They attempted to resolve the problem with Ford. Ford informed them that their legal department does not have a phone number, and so they could not contact them. I then received a letter from Ford saying that they would not help me and that there would be no further communication from them on the issue. I continued to call them and write to them but they refused to talk to me. I received a coupon from them for $500 off of a new Ford. I asked them if I could use it for hood repair instead. They told me no (I knew they would but it was worth a try).

I have only bought Fords for my entire life. I had a 1989 Tempo, and 1995 Escort, a 2001 Mustang, a 2005 Explorer and now a 2008 Mustang. I won't be purchasing a Ford again. I told them this and they said that they didn't care. I'm shocked that a company which has been manufacturing cars since 1903 would be having body corrosion problems. The problem is widespread starting with the 2004 Mustang model. All of the Mustang forums I have visited have threads about this problem. Ford has refused to help anyone whose car is beyond the warranty period. Now there is a class action suit starting in New Jersey over this issue. Ford's only solution up to this point has been to offer me a $1300 replacement hood. I would also have to pay to have it painted and mounted. They will not guarantee that the problem won't happen again.

I have just purchased an aftermarket fiberglass hood. It will be installed next week.

bubbling paint, rusted hood

have taken it in several times in regard to the paint looking as if it has white specks or the clear coat all bubbled up. They deny anything wrong with it. Paint on front/back bumpers is very etched looking. The whole underneath edge of the hood is bubbling rust. Dealership refused to do anything because it was not rusted thru and it was beyond 36,000 miles. Paint has now chipped off the outside edges of the hood because of the bubbling on the outside as well. Entire car looks as though it's got something all over it no matter how well I wash and detail it. Ford Motor refuses to acknowledge the issue with the rusting and bubbling and paint chipping. They have absolutely refused it is THEIR issue. The entire back window tinting is bubbled so much that it's even difficult to see out of. The car is abosolutely the biggest piece of junk. I have seen NUMEROUS 2008 model mustangs with the same hood issue with the paint bubbled and chipped. Never Ever will buy another ford product. Cannot wait to unload this piece of junk car, hopefully on another ford dealership where I can buy a good used GM product !

Ford issued a TSB 06-25-15 explaining the step to take to repair aluminum body panel corrosion. This bulletin listed 2005-2007 Mustangs. I have a 2008 Mustang with the same problem. Paint bubbling on the front edge of the hood.
