Traded out my old 1993 Century for a 1994 Ranger. thought I got a good deal, as the truck was fairly cheap. had to put a window in, and a muffler and catalytic converter on it. thought I was in the clear, then I take it to a mechanic to get the u-joint fixed, and he tells me the tranny is gone. I said, how bad, he says, I can't say for sure how long you have before you have to get it fixed. now, i'm facing an 800 dollar transmission repair bill, and I work at mcdonald's. having done extensive and all inclusive research, I have found that the ranger pickups are bad for this issue, and there is no way around it. if you own one, don't stress your transmission more than you absolutely must, and NEVER EVER haul a trailer over the weight cap. you will end up where I am, with a tranny that sounds like hell and runs even worse.
