Ignition lock assembly (part you put yur key into) will wear out.

You need to use a small screwdriver, push it into the hole below the lock assembly to depress the release.

Lock comes out easily.

Replace the lock assembly and reinsert.

Hard part is the PATS. You need BOTH keys to program a new key or take it to the dealer to have them program the new keys.

Some sites report the keys cost $120 each, plus lock cylinder, plus labor to replace and reprogram.

You can do it yourself but it is difficult if only one key works.

Note: If only one key works then you have to trick the system. This is best done with the lock assembly out of the column.

Remove the cylinder lock assembly entirely. Grind open the assembly to remove the tumblers so anything will turn it.

Replace the assembly then insert one original key and turn to on position for 10 sec. turn off and within 3 sec insert other original key. Wait 10 sec, remove key then insert new key, turn to on for 10 sec, then off.

If successful then security light n dash will blink 3 times.

Replace old lock assembly with new one and reinstall.

If all goes well, you will have a new lock and 'unimited' ability to program your own keys.

Disclaimer: Do this at your own risk as there can always be something go wrong. For safety, remove the negative battery connector first when fooling with ignition switch and reattach as needed.

On a skill level from 1 being a noob to 5 being an ase certified ford mechanic, I rate this as a 3 to 3.5 in difficulty. If you mess up, you may have a tow bill and repair bill too.
