problem #2

Ranger Lariat 2.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 50,800 miles

Transmission has always shifted early IMO of the rpm range but more annoying is shifting from drive, stopping then to reverse, doing so it’s slow to engage and clunks when engaged. Can be unsafe if you need to stop suddenly and backup, slow and clunky. Same can be said going from reverse to drive.

Ranger XL 2.3L

  • Automatic transmission
  • 2,500 miles

When I first noticed the problem I took my truck to the dealership. They checked the truck and heard the noise and said they would have to contact Ford and see what they wanted to do. Called me in to take driveshaft out and grease splines, but that didn't work. They had to call Ford to see what to do. I went back in and they took rear end apart to check it that was not the problem. They had to call Ford again to see what they wanted to do. They called and said Ford said to change the part that the drive shaft slides into question, and what that didn't work either.

They called Ford again and Ford said to replace the drive shaft and the part it fits into. Of course it was not in stock and I had to wait on them to come in. They came in and were installed, that did not fix the problem. Now they said Ford said to change the transmission. Guess what the transmission is not in stock don't know when it will be in, and no surprise with it not being in stock. I don't blame the dealership for this. I think Ford has a problem with micro managing their dealerships and parts. I'm very disappointed with Ford and their quality. This will be my last new Ford. PS I was at dealership on 12/19/2019 waiting on transmission.

Update from Jan 22, 2020: Got my truck back today 01/22/2020, with new transmission. The noise is still not fixed, and Ford has a problem with this 10 speed transmission. It's junk. I would not recommend this transmission to my worst enemy. Ford has lost their way with quality. It's about the number of units and not making a good product. I will not recommend Ford to anyone every again.
