Just bought the car for one of my young driving children. It was owned by a known older lady that is no longer driving. 2 days later steering went hard and I hit a sign post while trying to pull in for normal service and prep for driving. There was no sign of leakage under car and fluids had been checked. Guess Ford was not a good selection. Isn't steering a safety item anymore? Now we worry about airbags, belts and gps instead of vehicle control and responsibility. $1400 in body damage later, don't know what to think.

IT SEEMS THE POWER STEERING FAIL ITERMITANTLY WHEN TURN LEFT. VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN AND IT IS QUITE SCARY. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 55000 MILES ON IT. IT HAS NEW TIRES AND WHEEL BEARINGS. THERE IS NO EXCUSE FOR THIS AND I WONDER IF A RECALL HAS BEEN ISSUED ON THIS PROBLEM. HELP!

steering was so tight could hardly steer car

Driving along and go to turn and the steering is so tight I could barely turn the car. Next time not a problem. This went on until I was fed up and took it to the local garage in Naples Florida. The mechanic disengaged the rack and pinion and couldn't turn the rack because it was all bound up. Solution a new steering rack. Next day same thing, they apparently didn't try the steering shaft itself which was also bad. Solution a new steering shaft. At about this time I think it's Ford giving me the shaft! I have never heard of this happening and while I'm down south was a complete bummer. This Fords gotta go.

I bought this ford taurus with 37000 miles on it and the power steering has never felt right, so I had it looked at and they say it must just be an air bubble or something and it would probly work its way out. now it loosing steering fluid from somewhere , cant tell from where but I keep fluid in it about twice a month, just waiting for it to rear its ugly head I guess. Ive heard other people having to replace the whole rack and pinion. I sure hope the come up with a recall because if not ill never by american again. im sick of all these recall for gm so im definitely not gunna buy one of those, so it looks like next vehicle will be a foreign. And I really hate doing that but am so tired of these american made over priced pieces of sh*t. Well anyways I hope someone reads this at fords and gives it a thought. more and more people are buying foreign, and I hate to say it but I can understand some of there reasonings now.

My steering became very difficult when I tried to turn to the right. It took 2 hands to make the right turns. Then it started making a sound like air compressor.

I called the dealer and took it in, it was the rack and pinion and steering gear. Which cost $800 and then a $200 core return credit.

I asked about any recalls or known problem with this since didn't seem normal with only 46000 miles. Told they know of no recalls and it is not covered by my extended warranty since I only bought the one for power train. They gave me customer service for Ford to call which I did and she was helpful and said if I would hold she would get me a response. After 5 minutes she came back and who she talked to was the service manger at my dealer and they repeated to her it was a covered part. She said if I had any further questions to call my dealer.

I would think Ford would have response not leave it to my dealer.

Since there is another exact same complaint from a 2008 with 46000 miles says to me Ford has a problem. We'll see

We were driving, with 3 of our kids in the back, when all of a sudden the power steering failed; resulting in not being able to take right turns, at all. No warning, no lights coming on, it just went. Fortunately, we weren't on a highway, but it still was a very dangerous situation.

We went to the Ford dealer this morning, only to be told that this was not covered under warranty and repair quote will be around $1000 We asked to speak to representatives, we haven't been able to get to talk to anyone. The attitude is very much; it's not their problem, we can choose to have it fixed, or not. Of course there is no option for us; we need the car.

The dealer was very unhelpful, not concerned at all, his only question was if we wanted it fixed or not. We are furious. This is a 2 year old car that failed without warning. We do all of our service checks and maintenance on time and now this. No more Ford for us in the future.
