Ford knows this is a problem! No way a rack and pinion should go out on a 36,500 car at 52,101 miles. If anyone has seen the movie "Class Action" they know what has to be Ford's thinking. In 2014, 62,629 Tauruses were sold in the United States. Multiply those times dealer cost to fix of 1500.00 and you get close to $94,000,000.00 to fix just the 2014's sold in the USA. I don't know what other years the same rack and pinion was used. Canada sold 2505 which would cost $5,257,599 to fix. Adding USA and Canada the cost of a recall for just 2014 would be close to $100,000,000.00. From what I'm able to figure out the 2013 Tauruses had the same problem. There were 79,960 sold in the USA and 4,238 in Canada.. That's 84,198 times $1,500=$126,297,000. Adding that to 2014 we have real close to $225,000,000.00 to fix just those 2 years and really don't know how many other years should be included.

It's pretty obvious the way Ford looks at this problem. How many claims caused by our faulty rack and pinion will we have to fix before we get to $225,000,000.00 - and as I mentioned that's only for 2013 and 2014. Frankly it wouldn't surprise me if the number to fix these cars is actually close to 1/2 billion dollars.. Companies have actuaries who figure the risk out and I guarantee they told the higher ups, "don't need to fix, no way we'll pay out 1/2 billion in claims". Unfortunately for us who have had the gear go bad we're out close to $3,000.00 to fix it. I agree with them, in that if I owned Ford I wouldn't recall all these cars but, what they could and should do is have a silent recall like they did in the mid 90's with the 6-cylinder engine. Apparently, they had a problem with blowing head gaskets and Ford told them if a customer comes in with a blown head gasket and it has less than 100,000 miles on it, fix it, no charge. A recall would have cost them millions. I would like to have everyone with a Taurus with the same as in a 2014 for us to start a class action lawsuit.

With this complaint the rack and pinion is an electrical part. Ford has a recall for previous models stop at 2013. This seems to be an underlinining problem that has occured twice before with the 2014 model but still no recall has been put in place to correct this issue with future models beyond 2013. Ford needs to take responsiblity for this issue and get it corrected instead of keeping the consumers paying for their mistakes.

Once again my rack and pinion went out. I went to have a recall performed for the handshaft on my Ford. I took my car home and lose steering ability. I take it back to the dealership and have to get pay for a rental car to get home. The next morning, I receive a call that my rack and pinion was the problem at a cost of $2,948.47.

This was unacceptable due to just having this part fixed on 11/18/19. And the cost was less than what the dealership is charging. FORD, how many times is the rack and pinion going to need to be repaired!!!! Take some responsibility already!!! Just f'ing ridiculous to be going through this again because of an electrical part!!!
