Leaked quite a bit of antifreeze...had to replace timing cover gasket. Also more recently, a front tire blew due to rusted front springs and struts which had to be replaced.
Vehicle was parked in garage, consumer heard a loud noise, went over to vehicle and saw that front right of vehicle had dropped. Front passenger's side coil spring broke. No prior problems on this issue.
Front suspension spring had snapped while pulling into driveway. Contacted mechanic, and informed consumer not to drive vehicle, but have it towed in for repairs.
On two occasions front coil springs broke, causing tire to blowout. The design of the left front coil spring has broken twice, the spring broke and cut the tire, which then blew out at 70- 75 mph.
Consumer was going a maxium of 10mph and vehicle was hit on left side, just in front of rear tire. Next day, consumer noticed vehicle pulling to left and making a loud noise when making a sharp turn. Insurance adjuster stated that front coil spring broke. Dealer didn't believe that coil spring was broken from accident. Consumer's warranty will not cover repairs.
While traveling at approximately 45 mph left front suspension spring broke. Consumer was still able to operate vehicle. Dealership replaced spring. Then, in May 2001, while turning the vehicle on, there was a loud "boom" noise that came from vehicle. Upon examination, left front suspension spring had broken again. Please provide any additional information/attachments.
Spring broke while vehicle was being parked after completing a 70 mile highway trip with family of 6 in van. Severely punctured tire. Requesting reimbursement for repair of failed part. No longer own vehicle due to unsafe conditions and excessive recalls/owner notifications.
Consumer walked toward vehicle and noticed spring was hanging down. Day before consumer was driving it with no problem. Consumer has contacted us first to see if there was a recall. No further steps have been made. Consumer states the left front coil spring broke in half with a sharp point of coil very close to tire, consumer suspects lack of support or weak springs. Front struts and springs were replaced.
Right coil spring broken and punctured tire while backing out of driveway. Dealer notified, and informed consumer that the vehicle was not cover under a recall. Feel free to provide any further details on this matter.
Backing out of a parking space there was odd noise. Consumer stopped, got out and driver's side front end was down to ground. Moving vehicle so tow truck could get to vehicle. Coil spring punctured tire. Warranty was expired. Dealer didn't give explanation for cause. The cause for front end failure was coil spring breaking.
Major head gasket problem with this vehicle now problem with front engine cover due to poor workmanship when engine was replaced. Ford needs to admit that this is a real problem and fully compensate for repairs. Coil spring failure is very dangerous. I am glad that it happened when the vehicle was going into the driveway and not at highway speeds like when the engine blew. It is two bad this model year was a disaster and Ford play such a game with a serious safety issue.a M.
