As is typical with the Windstar, the deactivation switch is leaking brake fluid. Thus, causing problems with the ABS and cruise. Unfortunately, Ford already honored the recall (09S09) on this vehicle. At that time the deactivation switch was not leaking so they installed a wire harness to avoid a fire when it did start leaking. (why put on a wire harness" because they knew the switch was going to fail. Why not just replace the switch in the first place") now Ford will not re-open the recall to replace the switch and fix the other related problems.

Back in 2008 I was involved in a fender bender (about $6,000 in damages) when my ABS failed causing me to slide into another car. At first I thought it was minor issue, but have since been told it's a major issue with many owners. I've found that the recall (09S09) does not address all the underlying issues and the Ford dealer will not fix all of the issues. Additionally I was told by my local Ford dealer that there were no open items on my van for ABS. When I inquired what that meant, they said that there was nothing on recall for ABS on my vehicle. I had never had anything done to the ABS, so it was not because it was already fixed. A week ago, I was almost involved in an accident because of the failure of the ABS system; I was only going 40 mph. I constantly have my brakes checked because I have to press them hard to work. The rear brakes are almost new, and the front (pads and rotors) are new so the brakes should work better than they do. Since there are major reports of problems, this needs to be addressed by Ford.

Last week as I was driving around town and my instrument panel stopped working and the ABS lights would not turn off. The next morning I had to take my son to one of his activities and the instrument panel was still not working and I noticed I had to push the brake pedal all the way down to the floor. I went home and noticed that my car was leaking brake fluid. After much research I found my vehicle had a recall. (09S09) I took my car in this morning to have this recall fixed. This did not fix my instrument panel. After I got home I researched what the problem might be and have found numerous complaints about the same problem from brake fluid leaking on the some of the wires. I contacted Ford to see if this would be covered under the recall and they explained to me that the recall only covers that specific part. I am very upset because the recall will only cover the part and not the damage it has caused. I would like to file this complaint to make a record of this. I truly believe that Ford should fix the damage that this recalled part has done to my vehicle.

For a year now we be noticing odometer failure, brake light and ABS light coming on. Recently we found out the brakes weren't working at all. Luckily no accidents. I inspected the brake fluid container which was empty. I refilled it and checked around to see for any leaks. I noticed it was leaking at the scds switch. I went online and found a website where they described this to be a common problem and that there was a recall for this. Lucky it hasn't caused any fire like it did by some other owners.

I had received a recall notice for my Ford Windstar 09S09. I had taken my vehicle in to the dealership where they ascertained that the part was defective and had leaked. It was noted with Ford that my ABS light was always on, as was the check engine light and that my cruise control did not function any more. My speed indicator and odometer did not function properly either reading only half of the actual speed and mileage. These were all noted and the dealership replaced the defective part but stated that they would not repair the other problems that were caused by the leaked hydraulic fluid. I still have issues with everything stated because they did not do anything to fix these problems just changed the part. At this point I was told that it was too late to do anything because according to Ford the recall case was closed because the defective part was changed. As a consumer, I trusted my dealership to handle the recall in the correct manner instead of leaving all of the problems to continue without notifying me until it was too late, in Ford's words.

We have been experiencing various electrical problems with our Windstar and upon research through the internet found that others have had the same problems. The cruise control has stopped working for the last two years. The ABS and brake lights have periodically come on and then went off. The speedometer will be working fine and then drop to only 20 mph even though we are exceeding that speed. It will then jump back to the proper speed and this process will continue for a period of time.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated that the brakes were abnormally soft and there was a decrease in braking power. In addition, the cruise control was inoperable and the ABS warning light was illuminated. The contact was advised by his personal mechanic that the brake pressure switch, which was also the speed control deactivation switch, had failed and would need to be replaced. The contact was advised there was a recall for the failure under NHTSA campaign id number: 09V399000 (vehicle speed control). However, when contacting the manufacturer the contact was advised that his vehicle was not included in the recall. The failure and current mileage was 119,520.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact noticed that the speed control deactivation switch leaked brake fluid inside the engine compartment, causing the fluid to spill onto the wiring. The dealer made an attempt to repair the problem under NHTSA recall number: 09V399000 (vehicle speed control); however, the fluid continued to leak. The manufacturer was notified and they advised the contact to take the vehicle to the dealer for a diagnostic test. The vehicle was not repaired. The current mileage was approximately 93,000. The failure mileage was approximately 90,000. Updated 02/23/11 the consumer stated a wiring jumper was added to prevent a possible future leak of brake fluid, since the pressure switch was not leaking. Within 3,00 miles, the pressure switch began leaking brake fluid into the engine compartment directly onto the transmission speed control sensor. The transmission speed control sensor subsequently failed and needed to be replaced along with the speed control sensor. Updated 04/28/11

I had my mothers' 2000 Ford Windstar in to be repaired for two recalls, one dealing with the ABS system and fluid leaking that could cause a fire, and one dealing with electrical issues in the trailer wiring. After four days without a vehicle, I picked up the van (second recall still not completed due to lack of parts). I left the dealership and within 5 miles the ABS light came back on. When the light came on, I noticed the van started running rough and braking was more difficult and felt very soft. When I returned home, the dealership told us to bring the vehicle back in on Monday. They did not offer to give my mother a loaner during the first repair and said nothing for the second either. I am very displeased with the service regarding these recalls, and it seems like the problem still is not fixed. I am worried about my mother driving this van while the braking system is not functioning properly.

The brake pressure differential deactivation switch (scds) (2B264) located under the master cylinder (behind the air filter) over time developed a leak. This leak lead to the loss of cruise control. After some time it was replaced, the recall was then issued and I had the van checked by Ford. They reimbursed me for the repair I had done per the recall 09S09. Since the problem occurred I have intermittent ABS light coming on while driving. It seems this happens especially in warmer weather. I can see on my van where fluid leaked onto some wires below the switch that was replaced. Ford said there was no problem.

Ford Windstar 2000 car safety problem was reported on September 9 2010, had a problem with the vehicle suddenly accelerating. My wife had backed our 2000 Windstar sel out of the garage so we could sweep out the garage. The car had sat for about five hours in the driveway when she was going to drive it back into the garage. While releasing the brakes the vehicle accelerated suddenly and unexpectedly. Resulting in a collision with the garage cabinets at the rear of the garage, forcing the sides of the cabinet through the rear of the garage. The impact destroyed two full seven foot cabinets and a tree drawer cabinet. The front bumper cover was torn and pushed back about inch on the passenger side. The A/C coil was pierced and leaking, the radiator bracket was pushed back into the battery. And the air bags never deployed!! vehicle was towed to the dealership today, insurance has been notified.

The contact owns a 2000 Ford Windstar. The contact stated she received notification of NHTSA campaign id number: 09V399000 (vehicle speed control) and received repairs at an authorized dealer. After repairs, the ABS warning light would continuously illuminate sporadically. The vehicle was taken back to the dealer where it was discovered that fluid was leaking onto the ABS module. The dealer advised the contact that the repairs would be at her expense because the vehicle was previously repaired under the recall campaign. The manufacturer advised that the decision if the vehicle would be repaired a second time would be at the dealers disclosure and that recall repairs were a one time replacement of the failure. The contact stated that she did not experience any failures prior to having repairs under the recall. The vehicle was not further repaired. The failure mileage was 70,000. Updated 11/03/10 the consumer stated the dealer denied fluid was leaking was leaking onto the ABS and insisted the vehicle needed a new ABS sensor. Updated 11/04/10
