The driver's power window didn't work all the time, and sometimes only when I slammed the door and held down the switch, but now it does not open. Glad it closed the last time. Replaced relay because all I hear now is a click under the instrument panel, but it wasn't the relay. Just took the door panel off and it's on track and no obvious broken parts hanging down. What has been the most common cause?

Windstar SE 3.6L

  • Automatic transmission

The passenger window will get stuck in the closed position when the car is exposed to hot summer weather. Seems to be a problem with something shifting in the heat keeping the motor from being able to overcome initial movement. If I leave the window down just a quarter inch so I can tell it to raise the problem resolves itself.

Because of its intermittent nature it is too difficult to have a technician troubleshoot.

First, the rear windows worked whenever they felt like it. Now, they both don't open at all. Then, my Driver's side window stopped working, then it would start working, then stop....Now it works rarely and that only happens if I REALLY need to open my window.. I have to slam my door open and shut numerous times while pressing the up button to close the window. Yeah, I look like an idiot, but it's soooo much fun! 2 different mechanics said each window would cost about $300 to fix. I don't have the money to fix this. Ford, what do you think should be done?

Ok Ford, what is your problem???? Between all the problems I have had, this one really gets on my nerves. As of now, my passenger window does not work at all, and my two back windows work half the time. Thank god my driver window still works, but give it some time, I am sure it will go out also.

Windstar SEL 3.8L

First the passenger then the driver's side power window would work then not work then stop partially down or up.

I've taken the door panel off and lubricated the tracks as well as follow the Ford technical book to adjust the window. All of this effort makes the power window(s) work for a day or two then they are back to the getting stuck or not moving no matter what you try. I've tried the push or pull the glass up or down as well as the old fashioned fist to door panel in the motor area.

It's winter now and with all the snow outside I would really love to have the ability to roll my windows up or down for the atm instead of having to get out of the van to complete my transaction.

It's minus -35c my wife opens the driver's power window to throw out her gum. When she tries to close the window, it won't budge. She had to drive over 12 kilometers with the window wide open. The next morning, with no luck finding the problem, I decide to bring the van to the Ford dealership. On my way there I try the switch one more time to see if the window will close. To my surprise, the window closes like there was nothing wrong. After many more trials, no problem.

My drivers side power window works intermittently. It will be half open and will not go up or down. I can fix it by pulling up or pushing down on the window or slamming the door. It is getting worse with time.
