Envoy XL

Transmission line mounted too close to catalytic converter resulting in rubbing action that resulted in a hole in the transmission line spraying fluid on hot exhaust parts. Had to pay to have hose replaced. Don't know if the eventual failure of the transmission at 73K miles was related, but had to pay $2700 to get a new one installed.

Envoy XL 4WD 6-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 68,000 miles
My 2003 Envoy with 68,000 was rear ended. Shortly after the accident I began to hear a cluncking noise when stopping. After I took the vehicle in to be repaired I was informed that it no longer would go in reverse. The problem appears to be the sunshell gear which seems to be a common failure with this transmission, because even though it was fine before the accident the dealer is claiming it was not caused by the accident and thus I am responsible for the estimated $2,500 to fix!

Envoy XL 8-cyl

  • Automatic transmission
  • 28,203 miles
While driving at 35-40 mph vehicle suddenly lost power and the steering was not operating. There was no response to the vehicle at all. This occurred in the middle of traffic of a major highway. Vehicle had to be towed to a dealership. A diagnostic test was done and the result showed the need to do an update of software for the transmission control module ( ECM) and the power train, in general. They performed the repairs. The vehicle was serviced the week before this occurred.
