Had just placed vehicle in cruise control. Inadvertently pushed shift too far into neutral. This caused engine to roar & not leave cruise control. Applied brakes quickly & vehicle went into a skid. ABS did not work. Hit an embankment & rolled over. Engine was disconnected.
When applying brakes while going over railroad tracks vehicle would shimmy & make grinding noises. Brake pads would be spongy & would be wearing out excessively. Brake rotors have been resurfaced service times. Entire brake system was replaced at least 8 different times & now needs to be replaced again. ABS braking system are kelsey hayes.
Anti-lock repeatedly engages and pulsates brakes at low speed stops. Has caused one collision and at least 15 other close calls. Usually occurs when slowing for a traffic signal, etc. At slow enough speeds that the anti-lock should not engage. After this occurs, the ABS warning light comes on. When the warning light is on, the brakes work fine. When the warning light goes back off, it is then likely to reoccur at any time. Warning light has stayed on since last occurance and I feel safer as long as the warning light stays on. I'm already paying for this safety defect through higher insurance rates and shouldn't have to pay to replace an obviously faulty system. I just received my 2nd ABS recall for this vehicle but it appears this problem addresses a different defect in the same ABS system.
When braking the brakes make a noise and have lost vacuum power and gone straight to the floor numerous times. The first time was when attempting to brake when going down an incline to turn into a parking lot. A slight bump when braking and the brake pedal went to the floor. A few seconds later, I was able to brake again. This has happened more often on wet or slippery surfaces. On 07/21/00 I was in a parking lot when another car was pulling in front of me. The surface was still wet and slippery and when braking, the brake pedal made a noise and then all braking ability is lost, the brake pedal goes to the floor. Luckily there was no accident. This problem has happened to me numerous times. I brought my vehicle in for the ABS recall the end of 1999 and told the dealership about the problem. They couldn't find anything wrong. I travel a lot with my family and a braking problem is very scary!!!

Windshield wipers work sometimes but more then often do not work. I called GMC as there was a recall but they tell me my VIN number was not part of the recall. The recall was a month before I bought the truck. Why do I have the same problem but I'm not part of the recall? on the brakes- it was recalled for the antilock on a volunteer basis. I took it in for the computer adjustment as per the recall fix, they said it was done and a week later, on the same road it first happened to me, a light changed, I hit the brakes (not hard) and antilock kicked in and the pedal went to the floor and I almost crashed as my heart went into my stomach. Long before the recall, I had my truck into GMC many times for brake problems and even wrote letters that describe the recall long before I know there was one! GM says my truck brakes are fixed but they're not. The wipers they won't cover. Other then these problems and that the engine idles rough and is rough at low speeds, I really like my Jimmy!!
The ABS system has malfunctioned many times. At first I did not pay attention to it, because I thought it was just light brake pressure. Then it started to loose pressure and keep going forward when stopping. I took it to the dealer and paid for a new master cylinder. Then it started malfunctioning again. I contacted the BBB and was told it wasn't covered under warranty and I had too much milage. Went back to dealer and they reprogrammed the computer unit, no charge. The ignition started locking and they repaired that for a fee. It too has gone back to locking when trying to start. Safety is a concern, still.

While driving at any speed consumer could step on brake pedal to stop or reduce speed. But when driving over a frozen spot or gravel, vehicle won't stop immediately, instead will extend the stopping distance. Since the initial report, the system has been reprogrammed and is now functioning much better.
